60. Lumen

The trial of pyro came and went, and finally, the trial of Lumen opened before us.

Walking inside, I almost closed my eyes, the entire thing a mirror cabinet of monstrous proportions. To call it overwhelming would be an understatement, and yet, I had to focus on the information before me.

The radiant flash I used to start the fight was probably not my best Idea, closing my eyes as just about everyone had a similar Idea, and for a second, the entire hall became a gigantic light bulb, before the damage calculations came in.

It was simple, and just about everyone just gained 3.900 points for the first spell.

In the corner of my eye, I saw someones reflection reflect from a mirror on the roof, a quick radiant beam soon flashing towards the target, while a different beam almost instantly sailed towards me, the hands lighting up three rows over the only warning I got as I threw myself to the ground, sliding over the reflective surface of the ground.

I began running towards the shots Origin, ready to unleash another radiant beam at the next movement I saw, so paranoid was I, that I almost unleashed a shot at my own reflection, the difference to the way I looked when the year begun quite striking, the fleeting thought passing through and going, as I saw someone actually move in a way I could see them, the shot unleashed at the ceiling quickly hitting them, I could even see their shield glow at the moment of impact.

In the center, I saw a tower of mirrors, probably the place everyone wanted to run, and the million dollar spot if I planned on killing two birds with one stone.

With a goal in mind, my next challenge was finding a path that actually lead there, my shield slowly regenerating as I looked carefully, every step calculated, my head turning to observe as many angles as physically possible.

During this attempt at skulking, I suddenly made eye contact with a person, both of us physically in front of each other. It was a moment of absolute shock, before we started channeling.

His probably a spell of tier three or higher, while I prepared the ‘bright radiant flash beam’ a second tier spell I felt register and release the moment I forced the runes together, a tier one spell impacting against me as he took of, ready to run, just in time for my spell to suddenly release. I was unsure what happened at first, something that felt like a flash bang releasing around me, draining my shield a bit before it suddenly did what I hoped it would do, channeling a giant ray of burning light at my opponent, his figure protecting me from any reflections.

I grin at that, the other guy turning around with another beam of light, though casting both the mirror and the dim rune reflected it as just about nothing, any damage I might have dealt healing, not even worth a message.

My opponent used the distraction to run away, searching for easier prey. My path gets closer towards the central tower, to the point I cast dim opacity on myself, turning a bit more translucent and managing to sneak behind a mirror that made it almost impossible to see me from the tower.

Then, I waited, beams of light flashing around, waiting for me to cast dim and mirror whenever I saw the lumen twist, implying that the pathway of light was bending to accommodate a spell.

I never had more than a fraction of a nanosecond, and yet, I managed to remain mostly unfazed, the authors laser tag experience and many lifetimes spend avoiding heroes of light gave me reflexes I could not have expected before, the ‘flash mirror’ spell saving myself more than a few times by being put right between me and a spell I could not determine the origin of.

Finally, I saw someone enter the tower, waiting inside as other people followed, all of them beginning to cast spells while I waited. Finally, I used the headlights spell, my newest creation destroying the room as it got reflected over and over. For a solid ten seconds, the room was glowing.

My position wasn't the best, my own explosion hitting me multiple times, though the curses I managed to hear from the tower were enough to satisfy the thought of possible power, especially as I continued to blast ‘radiant beam’ and ‘bright beam’ at it, the first carrying the slightest aspect of solar rays, while the second was just an unfocused laser.

A sudden flash of light in the tower Implied they returned to attacking each other, resulting in

  a notification soon after.

I grinned, my head almost splitting as I tried the next trick, magic molding together at my command.

‘Dim mirror opacity’ and ‘bright radiant flash’ were probably not my smartest creations, the headache almost knocking me out as I double wield the first tier spells, a madman's grin spreading as my power made the mirrors near me translucent, while The brightest flash bang a tier one spell could create went off, my head almost physically exploding as I feel my concentration waver.

When I next came to my senses, I was told my ranking was on place ten, the fight taking about a minute after my spells. To call myself proud would have been a great understatement. My display of power and grandeur was immense, and if anyone had a problem with it, they could come and give me a piece of their mind, hopefully literally.
