Chapter 7: Roberto

  Chapter 7: Roberto

Roberto lived most of the time in a two story house in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs. Roberto split his life between two worlds, loving and devoted husband to be and high ranking vampire royal. He was in role as devoted husband to be at the moment. As he pulled into his two car garage and parked with the overhead door closing behind him he started to think about the events of that night.

How was Lamar so powerful he thought, Roberto has been around for a few centuries and he has never ran into a mage as powerful as Lamar. Lamar barely even had to use any spells and those wards he made for Elle’s were intensely strong.

Roberto was so deep in thought he didn’t even hear the door from the house open or noticed that the light in the garage was turned on.

“Boo.” A scream from outside the drive side window made him jump a bit. It was Roberto’s fiancé Crystal and she was laughing so hard tears developed in her eyes. Roberto open the car door and got out.

“Okay now, don’t start something you can’t finish.” He said with a smile. He bent down on one knee and he placed one hand on her stomach.

“Why are you sitting in the dark in the garage?”

“Just got lost in thought nothing to serious. How’s little man doing?” He said kneeling down so he was at stomach level with her.

“Well, little WOman is doing fine, they been practicing martial arts all night long kicking me in my stomach, that’s why I’m up now.” Roberto leaned in and placed an ear to her stomach, Crystal lovingly rubbed his head. She was currently 8 months pregnant, you would think she was having twins the way her belly has grown on her small petite 5’8” frame.”

“God you are so beautiful.” Lamar said standing up, he put his hands on her waist and pulled her in close. He stared into her brown eyes and then kissed her full lips.

“Stop I look a mess.” She fixed her robe to close it more and adjusted her bonnet so her hair will stay protected.

“No you don’t, let’s go inside and I’ll make you a nice cup of tea.”

“And a steak, rare, the bloodier the better.”

  “Sure.” He laughed.

They walked through the door that lead into their kitchen. Crystal sat down at their kitchen island, it was a beautiful marble counter top with an oak base that can sit up to four people. The kitchen was decorated in a modern décor, all stainless steel appliances. It had a nice little breakfast nook with bay windows that was more for show, they never ate there. Roberto begun to make her this pregnancy tea he found online and her bloody steak.

“Why were you out so late?” Crystal asked.

“I was working with those duskers I told you about, we were trying to figure out what was in that spiked blood.”

“Did you guys get it figured out?” She asked as he handed her a hot cup of tea.

“It was something that was mixed into the blood I was drinking, but I don’t know how it got into it.” Crystal had a look of concern on her face.

“Should I be worried?” Crystal asked. Roberto stopped what he was doing and walked over to his fiancé, he looked her in the eyes “I would give my life before I let anything happen to you.” Roberto said as she caressed the side of his face.

“I know that my love, but that’s also not what I asked you,” she grabbed his chin so she can look him directly in the eyes, “should I be worried?” Crystal asked again. She knew that Roberto would do anything to protect her, but it wasn’t her she was worried about, it was him.

Roberto took a deep breath, “to be honest, I don’t know.” He brought her in close, she laid her head on his massive chest, and they sat there in silence, letting his answer sink in. Roberto was a vampire as we know but Crystal was half human because her father and half dusker because of her mother. Being half dusker Crystal was stronger than a normal human but not as strong as a dusker and she had healing abilities as well, but that was the extent of her dusker abilities. Crystal was aware of the supernatural because of her mother, but she wanted to stay out of it, so when Roberto finally told her he was a vampire she was less than thrilled and it almost broke them up.

  “I’m going to be fine.”

“Can you promise me that though?” Roberto didn’t say anything for a second, he knew that he couldn’t but that’s not what she wanted to hear right now.

“I promise.” He kissed her forehead. He went back to cooking. Crystal knew in her heart that it was a promise he could not keep, but she wasn’t going to push anymore.

Roberto finished preparing Crystal her steak, they talked baby plans as she ate, “we have a bigger issue to talk about.” Crystal said with a mouth full of steak.

“What kind of issue?” Roberto asked.

“Names, we still haven’t figured out the name if we have a boy and the name if we have a girl. I also got these pamphlets for preschools in our area, we need to start looking into them like yesterday.”

“Preschools? The baby isn’t even here yet and you already want to start looking at preschools?” Roberto was confused.

“Yeah, we should have already been putting in applications months ago, these top tier ones fill up fast, we already going to have people giving us a side eye because of our child being mixed.” She said as she took another bite.

“What, part human, part dusker, and part vampire?” He asked.

“No fool, part Black and Cuban.”

“Oh yeah I forgot about that.” He laughed.

“Since you brought it up though what are we going to do about the other thing, if our child has any part of vampirism would they even be able to go into the sunlight?” She was concerned and if Roberto was being honest he was too. They had plans in place in case Crystal goes into labor during the day, they were going to do an at home birth, they also have a dusker doula.

“I’m not sure, the fact that you were able to get pregnant by me is a complete shock. Vampires are only able to get other vampires pregnant, and if a human did get pregnant by a vampire they more than likely wouldn’t be able to survive the pregnancy, let alone carry the baby to full term.”

“Only thing I can think of is because of me being part duskers and the healing abilities I have, either that or I’m a vampire and I didn’t even know it.” Crystal joked.

“Whatever the reason we’re having a baby soon and I cannot be more excited.”

“You really can’t wait to be a dad huh?” Roberto smiled at the thought, he was going to be the best father to his child. A better father then his was to him. He grew up in fear of his father, he was a merciless force, and he would kill if you looked at him wrong. Roberto father is a high ranking royal, equivalent to a king, he is one if not the most power fullest vampire in Ohio. If Roberto father finds out about Crystal then they are both dead, but Roberto refused to let that happen.

Roberto and Crystal sat and talked more baby plans as she finished her food and tea, when she finished she decided to go back to bed and Roberto stayed downstairs to clean up the kitchen. As he put the last dish in the dishwasher his phone buzzed.

“Hello.” He said answering the call.

“Hey man.” It was Carl another royal and Roberto’s best friend.

“Where are you? I’m at your place right now.” Roberto instantly got nervous, how did they find him he thought. He was getting ready to grab Crystal and make a run for it.

“My my place.” Roberto stuttered, he ran to the living room and peaked through the curtains of the window that looked out to the front of the house but the street was empty.

“Yeah your door man said you’re not home.” He is at the condo Roberto thought.

“No, I was but I felt like going out for a bit.” Roberto was relieved, they haven’t found out about Crystal.

His relationship with Crystal should have never been, especially since she is half human and half dusker. Roberto tried to keep up appearances in the vampire world as best as he possibly could. By keeping a luxury condo in the downtown area, driving expensive cars, and wearing designer clothes. It was getting harder to keep up the fa?ade. With Crystal being so close to get ready to give birth he wanted to be there for her as much as he could, she was very understanding of their situation, and he appreciated that but he still felt like it was unfair to her.

“Hurry up and get home I need to talk to you.”

“We can talk over the phone, I’m kind of busy right now.” Roberto didn’t want to leave Crystal.

“I have a nice 18 year old virgin O negative.” Carl said, he can hear him swirling a bottle of blood on the other end of the phone.

Roberto paused for a second, Carl could be the one behind the spiked blood he thought, and if so why would he do that, he gained nothing from having me kill some dusker he thought. Roberto figured could be his only shot of getting some answers and he couldn’t pass up the chance.

“Okay give me like 30 and I’ll be home.” Roberto hung up, he grabbed a pen and paper and wrote Crystal a note and put it where she would see it in the morning, he went to his office he had a wall safe behind a painting of a horse that Crystal made him when she thought she wanted to be an artist. There was about a hundred thousand dollars in cash and a gun that had wood tipped bullets. He was hoping he didn’t have to use it on Carl, but he would if he had no other choice.
