Jack roamed the village, appraising each and every person he saw, going so far as to knock on doors and talking with all people present, inspecting them. He had gone through all the buildings and once that was done, he even stopped by the gate and sat down, waiting the rest of the day there and inspecting the returning parties as well. Thankfully, a bit before dusk he noticed just what he had been searching for among yet another returning party that was in quite the horrible shape. Their gear, what little they had, seemed smashed, and they had quite the amount of bruises on their bodies as well. Combined with the dark and gloomy expression it was easy to tell they had encountered more than they could handle, no doubt losing a few people in the process.
"We are done." one of them spoke as they crossed the village gate, just as Jack was getting up. Then, the group spread out in different directions, clearly having been one of the groups that had formed after multiple others had failed already, their remaining members looking for another way forward. Jack immediately followed the person of interest, catching up with her in in just a few moments. His large frame behind her was not hidden at all, the woman turned around towards him the moment she realized he was following her and sclowled, her expression and state having seen better.
"What do you want? If it's not obvious, I am not in the best of moods right now."
"I guessed so, but it is somewhat urgent and you are the only one in this village I could find that fits the bill."
"And what would that be?"
"A 'Mind Soother' and a doctor at that."
Jack's words caused the woman to become more guarded as she realized what that implied. The guy had appraisal and he could read her titles as well. That was a lot.
"Wait, you are that Artist from the meeting a few days back."
"Virtuoso, but yes. Dealt with the rapist group just now and rescued a couple of seriously fucked up girls. They need help. Lots of it. Thought I ask for regular treatments for a proper compensation, but seeing how your group just disbanded, thought I could offer a place in our house and regular meals if you agree to be their caretaker."
"If they had gone through what I suspect they did, it will be hard to save them. Should have put them out of their misery where you found them. Would have been more merciful." she replied.
"Did that to the rest. These two asked to be saved, as much as they could do that in their condition." his words made the woman look at him more closely, a pained expression on her face as she asked something she regretted immediately after she got her answer.
"How many?"
"Almost twenty."
"Shit. Wait, the kids? You had some kids in your party!" a clear concern in her voice resounded, showing that the women was actually a good person, if a little jaded from life and the shit she had seen in her career as well as here.
"They saw them as we found them. And helped punish the scum. Not the rest. So, will you help?"
"Sigh. Of course. Not like I can say no, even disregarding my inability to now provide for myself, what with the disbanded party. Any chance you have a chance to wash oneself at your place?" she gestured as her own, dirty form as she replied.
"Well, we do have a castle here. Come along and lets see about getting you settled in and what you can do for those two poor souls. I am Jack by the way. Just Jack."
"Call me Carla then, or doctor."
"All right then Carla."
The duo, under Jack's guidance, quickly reached his house where the woman was quickly introduced to the people in sight before she was guided to one of the designated bathrooms for a decent wash up. Once she was done, a process that took almost an hour as she enjoyed the lukewarm water that could be accessed thanks to Jack's quick mock water boiler of sorts that was heated by their owen, she was brought back to the main room where the dining table was set. Since everyone had been informed of the new addition to the team during Carla's bath, she finally met the entirety of the party, her two patients excluded as they were still fast asleep.
Here, Carla learned what kind of food she would be 'compensated with' for her work on girls recovery and any she could do nothing but shed tears of joy as she savoured the rich taste of her meal.
"Just how do you make it this good?" she could not resist but to ask once her bowl was empty, damn near licked clean, a slight sadness in Carla's eyes as she understood that the small moment of bliss was over.
"That right there would be Jack's fault." Kaede replied with a light smile of her face, a response that would have been a happy giggle before today's events.
"Guilty as charged. Class specialization and stuff that allows me to make some nifty spices. That and I can identify a plethora of edible plants all around us. Combine with a skilled scout/ hunter, adding reliable supply of game meat and result is as you just experienced. It's a good offer, no?"
"What about after this tutorial zone?" Carla asked, already thinking of the future to come.
"We could always use a doc at home to ensure the kids mental is fine, so if you decide our little group is good enough we would not mind having you around, if things work out here." Jack replied positively, though leaving both sides a way out if their current cooperation does not work out, something Carla could appreciate.
"Sounds like a good deal to me." she replied wit ha light smile of her own.
"Now, just one last thing before I will have to serve the role of a taskmaster and request your services to begin." Jack spoke once again, asking Emi to conjure a simple contract for Carla to read and accept, with her as one party and Jack as the leader of the other, mentioning the same things they had agreed upon already, ensuring both parties were covered. Carla had no problems with the contract so she signed it and asked about the first task she would have to undertake that was in Jack's mind.
"Just have a quick chat with the kids and see that they are actually fine. We will be heading out tomorrow once again to vent on some monsters so if that does not seem like a good idea I would like to know before that." he explained as he ruffled Kaedes and Kenji's hair, a small yet solemn smile on his face.
"Will do that, Should not take that much time either. Then to take care of those girls, yes?"

"For the most part yes."
The kids then had a quick, few minute talks with Carla to see their states and she reported to Jack afterwards that aside from a light shock and anger, they were overall fine and the plant to vent on some monsters was fine to proceed with.
"Do you want to talk about something?" she asked as the two stood before the room where the duo of girls they recovered still slept. "While it will never go away, the burden get lighter if you share it."
"I served and have seen worse shit." Jack replied, mentally referring to his decade of monster slaying and the occasional 'safe' zone he had the chance to stop in and the utter degeneracy he had encountered in some. Compared to that, this Alexander and his group were nothing more than kinder gardeners on their first day. Now there was some disturbing memories better sealed away in the darkest corner of one's psyche. "Take good care of them." he added as he turned around and left Carla at the door, the woman in her early forties quickly stepping inside to fully understand what she had to deal with.

CRACK.
"GRUAHHHH!!!"
A loud and pained scream echoed across the area as yet another hobgoblin fell to the ground as Kenji slammed down his mace, shattering yet another extremity as he struck, causing his poor target to feel particularly aggrieved, not that his entire pack was experiencing any better. Jack's party was like possessed, their movement and energy as though supercharged and in desperate need for release.
The scream did not last for a long time, Kenji's mace coming down on the poor bastards skull soon enough, silencing the creature for ever.
"That's the last one in this pack." Jack commented "Status report!"
"Barely warmed up and ready and willing for more!" Kenji exclaimed with almost a roar.
"As Well!" in unison came Izumi's and Fumiko's reply, followed shortly after by Emi's and Kaede's who was last to respond, also conferring with the of the group.
"How much do you still need to went? A lot? Or more than just a lot?"
"The latter!" came a unified response.
"Well, there is only one way to do that then. Let's send a greeting to our friends back at their home camp so they start to set tables for our proper visit, shall we?" Jack grinned as he then lead his party forward, their destination being one of the more isolated corners of the monster camp where they could truly and properly went. "I will make sure you have enough monsters to pummel while not allowing you to be overly swarmed." Jack added along the way, his mind already working overtime to figure out the full plan.
-------------
"Wow!" Jack exclaimed as he glanced back every now and then, a scene of true chaos coming into view each time he did. They had done quite the good job on their visit towards the camp and the small skirmish afterwards as well. They struck quick and hard, delivering a heavy blow to the monster flank and after a small minute of rampage they retreated as quickly as they arrived, creating absolute mess in the camp. Then, with the chaos in full wing they struck from another side, repeating the same tactic as before, striking hard and leaving devastation behind them, then retreating once again.
While seemingly organized, the monsters were nothing more than a pack of wild beasts, the only difference being that their leader was just slightly smarter than one. Still, bestial instinct controlled it for the most part, making its decisions simple and one dimensional, providing Jack's group plenty of opportunities to repeat the same tactic. With their constant attacks, Jack also learned another, rather important piece of information that changed the whole dynamic of his planning for the coming days. From what he noticed, only a couple of retaliatory patrols were sent out after each strike, meaning that whatever rules controlled the monster camp, they absolutely prevented the whole horde from leaving, making the place a literal monster spawn point.
"Kids, I hope you still have resentment and anger to burn, because tomorrow we are coming back and working twice as hard if what I think I figured out actually works as I think it does." Jack said as they were returning back home, the day slowly coming to an end, with them reaching village slightly before dusk.
Back home the farmer group had already prepared supper and greeted their field team with smiles, praising Carla as a hard worker and a blessing to have around, noting that the two girls had actually woken up and were seen following her around, though clinging to her as if their life depended on it. "So long as there is any progress at all, I am happy with it." Jack had nodded with a slight smile about the matter, mirrored in the faces of the remaining party members.
Supper was a rather happy occasion, though the two recovering girls had hidden in their room, guardedly watching any of the guys that lived here, trembling in fear. Neither Jack nor anyone else blamed them, on the contrary- they had nothing but praises that they did not shut entirely down at the mere sight of them, an entirely reasonable response given what they had gone through, though Jack did laugh quite awkwardly when Carla told the reason for their apparent 'bravery.'
"The blurry figure will come and make the bad men scream in pain? You sure that is what they said? What am I, a bogeyman?" he asked shaking his head. "Have they at least eaten something?" he continued as if trying to switch topics.
"No no no! Do tell us more about the Blurry Figure please!" interjected Izumi, a small smile on her and the others faces, the long day of wenting and this small progress of the two girls enough of a reason for them to feel at least a bit better. Still, Jack was sure they would view all strangers, except maybe those that Jack vouches for, with large amount of mistrust and caution, something Jack himself was more than just slightly in agreement with.
"Not much to tell, really, but whatever he did to that bastard, the girls heard it clearly- a price extracted for the suffering they had to go through. Can't say much more than that though, my apologies." Carla explained.
"Don't worry about it. You are doing insanely good job as is already. So long as we can at least somewhat recover them I will be more than satisfied." Jack explained his stance.
"What do you want for them in the long run?"
"Full recovery seems like an impossible ask, I know that, or at least I would have said it back on earth. Here? Maybe there are ways, but for now we need them capable of functioning and making informed decisions once again."
"The reason being?"
"So they can decide if they want to stick with us, working with the farmers or make their own path further ahead. Either way would be their choice to make, otherwise they would become nothing more than unknowing slaves, even if that is not our intention. Or worse still- some sort of pets."
"That does make sense. I will do my best to help them as I have already promised. I might need to request the assistance of the girls here at some later time, would you be willing?"
"Yes!" the girls agreed as one, more than just willing to help.
"By the way, did the rest of you also received a title 'Executioner'?" a while later asked Kaede.
"Seems like we all have it now." Izumi commented, seeing everyone of their combat party nodding in agreement.
"What's that?" Carla asked, curious.
"As the title suggests, we executed someone, though it has its nuances." Jack replied, sharing the titles information.
Executioner- You learned of scum hiding among the masses, smoked them out and found plenty of evidence of their evil and vile deeds. Then, once the culprit was caught, you served as the executioner to rid this land of the evil being, making it just that little bit better.
"Now that is an endorsement if I have ever seen one." Carla mused after reading the description.
"But it can also be a double edged sword. What determines one's value, dead or alive? The title might as well be earned by a wicked person executing a simple family for their failure to live by his twisted standards. In his mind, it would have been equally correct, the 'evil and vile' deeds clearly in sight all around said theoretical family. And while I have a slight feeling it is actually colored with positive intentions, er don't have to parade it around, so we will not either. let it remind you of the necessity of those kills and of the fact that there are plenty scum out there that deserve no less than death."
"Will you maintain your current pace in the coming days?" Carla asked before everyone dispersed, earning a quick nod of agreement from Jack and a few words.
"Yea. There are a few things we have to test in depth."
"Understood. Do be careful out there and make sure the kids have enough time to rest and relax in the evenings. Too much work is also bad for your health, if not physical then mental for sure. Take the advice from a professional with personal experience."
"While I would love to give the kids some proper R&R, time is of the essence and we can just do that once this damn tutorial is taken care of. See you in the morning." Jack waved her off, returning to his room and retiring for the night, there were plenty of stuff to do come morning.
