Xenobiological Intern’s Log: Observing the Human Known as “Reynolds”
Date: [Unknown – Earth Calendar Incomprehensible]
Intern ID: Trainee Observer Zil-Vatek 349 (I am not prepared for this assignment.)
I have been assigned to observe Earth.
This was not my first choice.
I requested a quiet, stable observation post—perhaps a distant gas giant or a pre-industrial civilization.
Instead?
I have been stationed to monitor Sol-3, a planet where:
? The dominant species is actively accelerating its own destruction.
? Their “leaders” are more interested in arguing than avoiding planetary collapse.
? They have discovered nuclear weapons and immediately used them.
? They are currently experiencing an existential crisis about whether or not they are alone in the universe.
They are not alone.
I know this because I am watching them.
And, most alarmingly, I have been assigned to monitor one specific human.
His name is Reynolds.
And after only a short period of observation, I have one conclusion:
This planet is doomed.
Phase One: The First Time I Observed Reynolds
I was instructed to monitor human military research facilities for signs of biological enhancement experiments.
At first, I thought Surely, this species is not that reckless.
I was wrong.
Within minutes of observing Project Canid, I witnessed:
? A human engineer screaming because a genetically enhanced canine had stolen his ID badge.
? An explosion in the distance that no one seemed particularly concerned about.
? A facility-wide security alert that was dismissed with “Oh, it’s just Cairo again.”
? A large, terrifying specimen known as “Nemo” casually carrying another human like a sack of grain.
And in the middle of this chaos?
A single, bewildered human.
The one they called Reynolds.
Phase Two: The Human Known as “Reynolds”
At first, I assumed Reynolds was a researcher, a scientist, or at the very least, someone with authority.
But after further observation, I have determined that Reynolds is simply trapped.
? He is not in charge.
? He does not control anything.
? He frequently mutters about “needing a new job.”
? Despite this, he is the one that both the genetically enhanced canines and the humans go to for help.
Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.
Why?
I do not know.
But I have concluded that his suffering is constant and inevitable.
Phase Three: The Time I Witnessed Him Discover the Lost Three
Recently, Reynolds began investigating a classified portion of his facility’s records.
He discovered that three genetically enhanced soldiers had been “removed” from Project Canid.
? Their files were erased.
? Their existence was denied.
? Yet, they were still out there.
Upon realizing this, Reynolds experienced great distress.
He attempted to ask his colleagues for answers.
None were given.
Instead, he was met with:
? A cryptic smirk from “Cairo.”
? An amused chuckle from “Smoky.”
? An uncomfortable silence from “Nemo.”
? A slow, knowing smile from “Rags,” which I have determined to be extremely concerning.
At this point, I noted that Reynolds’ heart rate increased significantly.
I do not blame him.
Even I—**a being not of this world—**felt unease.
Phase Four: The News Report That Made Things Worse
Not long after, a terrestrial news source reported an attack.
? The victim: A human with a history of criminal behavior.
? The attacker: Described as wearing a “dog-like mask.”
? The outcome: The victim later convicted of crimes against a child.
Reynolds read this report.
He realized, almost immediately, what I had already concluded:
? One of the missing three is not just alive.
? He is hunting.
? He is targeting those he deems “unworthy.”
His response?
A long, exasperated sigh, followed by:
"Oh, that’s just great. We’ve got a rogue Batman dog out there."
I do not know what “Batman” is.
But I do know this: Reynolds fears this development.
So do I.
Phase Five: What This Means for Earth
? This planet is in crisis.
? Its governments are weak.
? Its technology is unstable.
? Its enhanced super-soldiers are no longer under control.
And now?
Now, the lost ones have returned.
And I do not think they are coming back to make peace.
Final Thoughts (I Would Like to Be Reassigned Immediately)
? Humanity was not supposed to reach this level of military biotechnology.
? They have done it anyway.
? They have lost control of their own creations.
? And now they do not know how to contain them.
? Reynolds, somehow, is caught in the middle of all of this.
I do not know how this ends.
But I do know this—
If these “Good Boys” are truly loose in the world, Earth’s fate may already be sealed.
I will continue to observe.
End Log.
