We had to wait for a few more minutes before everything began.

  One by one people were led to the device that would help all of us awaken.

  Awakening was something everyone went through after they turned nine. It was guaranteed.

  Now, there are generally two ways of awakening, one of them is what people refer to as a natural awakening, where no external stimuli is given and people awaken on their own, something my mom thinks I did. And another one is guided awakening. Using magic apparatus, and by stimulating the magic roots of a person, they can artificially push the root to awaken. This is what will happen today.

  Natural awakening can happen anytime after one turns nine, it might take a few days to a few months or sometimes in very rare cases it might take a few years, but every single person awakens one day or another.

  In today's age where magic has reached a level of sophistication which has even surpassed earth’s science, it was very easy to awaken someone and most people who had the money chose to do it this way.

  Actually most of the people here, including him and the girl called Sarah, all of them were to take the exam after they completed the ceremony today.

  Although it was called an assessment, for people connected to the Peak masters it was just a formality.

  Take me for example, no matter what kind of ability I awaken, I was going to get selected for the Shining Cauldron Peak. Why? Because the person choosing gave birth to me.

  ‘Nepotism for the win.’

  No, I don’t have any shame. How could you tell?

  And I totally plan to be on the same peak as I am now, why would I go anywhere else?

  The Shining Cauldron Peak was a peak connected to every other peak, as this was the supplier of pills and other medicine across all of them, and as long as I have the system I don’t even have to look for abilities, all the progress will be transferred to me.

  I’ll probably need to train my own skills, but I can do that anywhere, I don’t have the need or the desire to go anywhere else right now.

  Peak Master Rodan started calling everyone one by one, I looked at the list and my name was actually towards the end, so I waited and watched as other people went.

  Soon, it was Sarah’s turn.

  She didn’t bother looking at anyone else and went straight to the device.

  It was a small magic circle drawn on a circular metal disk connected to different machines as I could see magic energy moving through tubes and making the lines of the magic circuit light up.

  She stood in the middle and the light lit up even more as an aura of magic surrounded her.

  ‘Hey, system, take care to not let anyone know if any changes start in my body.’

  [Understood.]

  ‘By the way, always calling you is weird. Do you have a name or something?’

  [The Insatiable System.]

  ‘Yeah, I’m not gonna call you that every time I wanna call you now, am I?’

  I thought for a bit and just now realized that the system’s tone had kind of a feminine feel to it.

  ‘You sound like a woman, do you mind if give you a woman's name?’

  [The host can call me whatever he wishes.]

  ‘Oh, come on, don’t be like that, show some excitement, will you?’

  I thought for a bit before smiling a little.

  ‘I’m gonna call you Avaria. What do you think? Do you like it?’

  [...]

  ‘So, you do like it, pretending like you don’t, hah!’

  As I was messing around with the system, the process finished and I found out not by looking at the scene in front of me but by the system’s messages.

  I smiled looking at the ability she awakened. But soon that smile turned into a frown.

  ‘I may not know much about the world outside the sect, but even I know the surname of the royal family of this kingdom…’

  Aren’t they all water mages? doesn’t sound like it does water magic, you know?

  ‘Now, why would someone like you come to a third-rate sect like this?’

  My curiosity couldn’t help but grow stronger, while also understanding that I was maybe learning some things I wasn’t supposed to.

  Deciding to think about this later while also being satisfied with the ability, and seeing that the system had contained whatever changes were happening inside my body, I decided to focus back on the surroundings.

  Even though a Royal rank ability user was born, there wasn’t much commotion and I quickly found out why.

  Looking at her, her facial expression didn’t change even after awakening such an ability. Rather I felt her expression was even colder.

  ‘Why can’t we see any effects of her ability outside, Avaria?’

  [Physical contact is required to definitively answer, but it is probably a skill similar to the one the system is using to hide the host's ability. Or something similar to the stone the host’s mother has given.]

  Yeah, that. I patted my pocket and felt the small pebble sized object in there.

  ‘Looks like there are lots of people hiding things here…’

  But still, it was a Royal ability user, even if no one here knew about it.

  In terms of ranking of abilities, a Royal rank ability was below the Mythic rank with a single rank in between.

  The ranks I knew of went as follows - Inferior -> Common -> Novice -> Adept -> Advanced -> Expert -> Elite -> Royal -> Epic -> Mythic -> Legendary. There may be more but I didn’t know about them.

  These ranks applied to both innate and acquired abilities.

  Even an Elite ability grants the person a noble title automatically.

  A Royal ability is something only the royal family of the kingdom has, they say only royals can unlock Royal class abilities, no one else can. Who knows how true that is.

  Forget about the ones above Royal.

  Peak Master Rodan’s voice brought me out of my thoughts.

  “Please demonstrate your ability for recording purposes, Sarah.”

  She nodded lightly and a small ball of water formed on her hands, as she manipulated it to move around her body.

  “Expert Rank .”

  Looks like the device detects whatever magic is used on top of it.

  ‘There are so many ways to fool this system, they’re really not concerned with who gets an entry in this sect, huh? Lucky me.’

  A few people were next, but no one else with an amazing ability came by, mostly just Common, Novice and Adept ranks.

  It was also a learning experience for me. Not all skills are oriented for combat. A few people got farming abilities, someone even got an ability that lets her manifest a fountain pen, and surprisingly that was an Adept rank ability. If I get a chance I should try to soul bind her too.

  ‘I don’t need all combat abilities, now do I?’

  “Next up, Anshe!”

  Soon, my name was called.
