Chapter 5- Money well spent

  After a month if hardwork, Jared now feels like a rich man. He's 2 gold richer. And he's got a day off.

  The first thing he decides to do is pay if his debt.

  Shopkeeper Yanua "Aaa, boy. I thought you ran off with my sword. Where were you this past month?"

  Jared "I can't do that to you, when you have shown trust in me. I can't break that trust. I couldn't come because I was very busy with everything else. Now I have come back to pay you back."

  Yanua "understandable. How did the sword treat you? Was it any good?"

  Jared " To be honest I did little to no sword training. I have been busy with training my stamina and endurance. "

  Yanua "hmmm. But do seem a bit stronger than before."

  Jared " Here's your 4 silver i owe you sir."

  Yanua "thanks. What about buying it out? You just rented it for a month."

  Jared "I would like that. How much do I pay more?"

  Yanua "hmm, you know what, earlier I told you it would be 10 silver. I'll cut you a deal now. Just pay 4 more silver and take it home."

  Jared "thanks mister, here's 4 more."

  Yanua "don't forget me when you need a real one later."

  Jared " I'll come back mister. "

  Yanua " you can call me master Yanua"

  Jared " okay, master Yanua. I'll be back soon."

  Jared walks around market. He wants to buy some things for himself and his brother. He buys some new clothes and shoes for himself and his brother. He finds a cute little pendant that would be a great gift for Anna. He hasn't made up with her.

  After their first encounter in the orphanage, he tried talking to her several times. But she always pushes him away. She can walk properly now, but she just keeps herself in her room. Didn't make any new friends.

  Jared hesitates but finally decides to buy it.

  Later while walking, Jared smells something really good. He's immediately drawn to the smell.

  Jared " It's smells really nice. What is this?

  Shopkeeper "it's cheese bread with spice It's my personal recipe. Want to buy some?"

  Jared " yes, how much for one?

  Shopkeeper " it's 50 coppers for 1."

  Jared "that's too high."

  Shopkeeper "the rates of cheese have been increasing. I'll give you 5 pieces for 2 silver. That's the best I can do."

  Jared "that's still too much. I'll pay you 1 silver and 50 copper."

  Shopkeeper "You drive a hard bargain. Okay you have them. Do you want me to pack them up for you?"

  Jared "Yes please. Here's the money."

  Shopkeeper "thank you, visit again."

  As Jared is walking down the street he comes across a begger

  Begger " Please give me some money, i haven't eaten in 2 days."

  Jared " hmm. Mister why are you begging? My mother said one shouldn't beg even if they are hungry."

  Begger "Yes, that might be true. But I don't have any work to do. And got nothing to eat now."

  Jared "hmmm, My mother also used to say to give food if you find someone is hungry, so here you go. You can have 2 pieces of this bread."

  Begger " aahh.. it seems really nice." Takes a bite. "Ouch.. ouch.. soo hot... But really delicious. Thank you boy. I'll remember this."

  Jared "No need. I just helped because my mom said that. Anyways you can have this 1 silver as well. You might get hungry at night so here."

  Begger " thanks a lot. You have good manners."

  Jared next visits the orphanage where he finds Kahl playing with his friends.

  He takes 1 bun and gives 2 to his brother to share among the children. "I should've brought more."

  They all share and eat."

  Kahl " Idsz, ealy goos."

  Jared " Kahl eat first and speak later."

  Kahl "yummy.. what's there in that bag?"

  Jared " some new clothes and shoes. "

  Kahl " for me? Yay."

  Jared " yes for you. Although it looks a bit small.

  We can perhaps exchange them later. "

  Kahl " okay, but the shoes are perfect."

  Jared " do you like them?"

  Kahl " Ofcourse , I love them. Thanks brother. "

  Jared notices Anna standing behind the wall.

  Anna notices how happy everyone is. She gets sad that she is alone. But realizes that it was her own fault for pushing everyone away. She leans against the wall with her eyes closed. Tears stats to build up.

  Jared comes to her "Anna?"

  Anna didn't notice Jared is so close. She gets shocked. "huhh.. oh my you scared me. What are you doing here?"

  Jared "Well it's the hallway. I'm just on my way out."

  Anna " huh. So go away, why are you still standing here."

  Jared " I have something for you. Hope you like it."

  Anna " what is this?"

  Jared " open it. "

  Anna opens and finds a beautiful little pendant.. she likes it a lot and gives a faint smile.

  Jared "Did I just see you smile"

  Anna is flustered. " Noo.. I didn't, why would I smile."

  Jared "Do you like it?

  Anna " i.. I don't."

  Jared " that's bad i bought it for you. If you don't like it, I have to return it."

  Anna "Noo. I mean it's okay. I'll keep it."

  Jared teasing "But you said u don't.."

  Anna " stop teasing me. I'll just keep this because it's for a girl and you are a boy and you can't use it."

  Jared "But as I said I can return it as well."

  Anna " hmmm... Huh fine take it back."

  Jared Laughs " hahaha. Nah you keep it. It's good for a girl."

  Anna " Now go, why are you still standing here. Don't you have any other work?"

  Jared " I do.. okay then I'll leave. Bye."

  As Jared is leaving the door Anna in a small tone says "Bye"

  Jared barely hears it, smiles and leaves.

  Anna goes back running to her room. "Oh my god, oh my god. What did I do. I should've never accepted this. Now how should I repay him. Ahh.. I didn't wanted to talk to him, so why did I.. why is he soo nice to me? After I said soo many bad things to him. I should just apologise to him, to Kahl and everyone else. I have been very rude and now everyone just ignores me."

  Anna cries "Can I still have a normal life like everyone else. What should I do mom." She cries again holding the pendant tight in her hands.

  While leaving, Jared meets the headmistress and gives her some donation.

  Headmistress "Oh my that's very generous but won't you need the money?"

  Jared " It's fine, everyone here needs it more than I do. Plus you have been taking such good care of Kahl and Anna."

  Headmistress "Oh you want to help out. In that case I'll accept this. Thank you."

  Jared " thank you. Ok I must leave now. Need to prepare for tomorrow."

  And Jared leaves he goes back to the camp and prepares for dinner. Just in one day he goes and spends half of his money. He just have 1 gold left now which he decides to save up.

  Jared " ahh just 1 gold left. I spent half of my money today. But I think it was well spent."
