Nova strode towards the center of the grand hall, every eye following his movements with an unspoken intensity. He stopped, his gaze steady as he declared, "I will explain the details."
No one dared challenge him. Even Jonathan, seated on his throne, merely gave a curt nod. "Very well."
Nova’s eyes swept across the crowd, meeting each gaze in turn. The weight of his presence settled over the room like a heavy blanket. Only when the silence was absolute did he begin.
"You should now understand that nothing previously said was false. Every passing hour draws us closer to death—or something far worse." His words were measured, grim, and final.
The crowd remained silent. No one dared ask questions. They listened as if their lives depended on it—because they did.
Nova continued, his tone unwavering. "The first step of our plan is to monitor Humanity’s training." He paused, taking a slow breath. "From this point forward, only those with the class ‘None’ will train and clear the portals." His voice was iron, leaving no room for negotiation.
Jonathan’s eyes narrowed. He hadn’t been informed of this strategy, and he had expected something simpler. Restricting people from training would stir chaos—potential rebellion. Still, he held back from speaking, waiting for more details.
Victor’s sharp mind had already discerned the meaning behind Nova’s decree. A slow, knowing smile curved his lips.
Damian and Henry exchanged glances, suspicion clouding their expressions. They had their theories but remained unsure. Saying anything prematurely would be unwise. Their families, seeing their leaders remain silent, kept their own objections to themselves.
Nova took in the room’s silence and decided to clarify. "Only those with the class ‘None’ are capable of learning without restriction. They aren’t bound by elements or weapons. In other words, we must focus on strengthening these individuals. They will become our vanguard—the ones who protect Humanity and face the aliens when the time comes."
Understanding dawned across the hall like a sudden sunrise. The gravity of the plan settled on every heart.
Jonathan couldn’t contain himself any longer. “This is a good plan, but doesn’t it mean we’re discarding most of Humanity by not letting them train?” His voice carried the weight of concern, and several heads in the crowd nodded in silent agreement.
Nova didn’t turn around. His tone was calm, but resolute. “No, we are not abandoning anyone. We are simply delaying ascension.” He sighed, as if weary from explaining. “If the majority of Humanity—those bound to classes connected to the aliens—doesn’t train, then…”
Victor, still seated on his throne, finished the thought. “Then those with the class ‘None’ will be able to reach far higher levels before we cross the threshold.”
Nova turned his head and nodded. “Exactly. Once we have a core group strong enough to guarantee our independence, the rest of Humanity can resume their training.”
Jonathan mulled it over, and the logic became clear. “I agree with this plan. How do you propose we implement it?”
“Simple” Nova replied without hesitation. “Gather everyone with the class ‘None’ and record their information. We need to monitor them closely and track their progress.”
Henry stepped forward, his brow furrowed. “What about the young people who chose ‘None’? Are we just supposed to watch them die because they’re too inexperienced?”
Nova chuckled, though there was no warmth in it. “The second part of the plan is gathering everyone’s information. What you’re worried about will be addressed in the third part.”
He continued without pausing. “We need to build four academies—one in each major city. These academies will be open to anyone with the class ‘None.’ Their purpose will be twofold: to teach essential theories and to train elites.” He turned toward the thrones, locking eyes with each of the three family heads and the President.
“I don’t want any mistakes. I expect nothing short of excellence. Spare no resources in building the best training grounds possible. Study the new world’s rules, experiment, and come up with solutions. I don’t care how you do it.”
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Jonathan’s gaze lingered on Nova, recalling how this same young man had coldly executed numerous people just moments ago. He swallowed hard before steadying himself. “You want to base this on our current education system, but with a focus on military training. Correct?”
Nova nodded.
“Then we’ll need to split them by age groups” Jonathan said thoughtfully. “And I’ll need to know the standards for passing each class.”
Nova smiled, but there was no warmth behind it. “Good question. The standard is simple” he began, letting his words hang in the air for a moment. “At age ten, they will start clearing White portals. Those who show talent will advance to higher portals. Those who don’t will continue with White portals until they’re strong enough to serve as useful soldiers. Those who die…unlucky.”
The vice-president, Daniel Harrington, rose from his seat. His tone was sharp. “What if they don’t want to fight for us? What if they come to resent the system?”
Nova’s laughter echoed through the hall, cold and unsettling. When he spoke again, his voice was light but deadly. “Isn’t that obvious?”
The crowd was stunned into silence. Jack already knew the answer, and Victor could easily deduce it.
“If they refuse, they die. If they resent the system, they die. I’m not going to risk my life or Humanity’s future for some rebellious child. That’s why I said no slip-ups. If you see signs of rebellion—kill.” His words landed like a hammer, freezing the entire hall.
Cassidy trembled at Nova’s decree. Yet when she glanced at her father, who remained silent, she realized something chilling—Nova wasn’t the crazy one. They were.
They still didn’t grasp the peril they were in. But it was time they did.
Rachel stayed close to Cassidy, trying to steady her, though her own thoughts were in turmoil. Jack, on the other hand, remained unmoved. He muttered under his breath, “If someone doesn’t care about Humanity and brings danger to billions, then Humanity will abandon them.”
Cassidy, Rachel, Thomas, Samuel, and Amelia heard him. And, deep in their hearts, they knew he was right.
Jonathan battled with his conscience. Killing anyone who stood in their way, even the young, didn’t sit well with him. But the thought of billions dying because of a few rebellious souls was far worse. With a heavy heart, he steeled himself.
The others wrestled with their own moral conflicts, but they all came to the same conclusion.
Thousands versus billions. It wasn’t even a question.
Nova shattered the silence. “Each academy will accept ten thousand people who didn’t choose the class ‘None.’ They will help keep the students under control and serve as instructors and thus able to train.”
His cold gaze landed on Jonathan. “Don’t mess this up. That’s all for now. Begin immediately. If there’s anything you can’t handle, let me know.”
Without waiting for a response, Nova strode back to his seat and slouched down lazily, as if the fate of Humanity wasn’t weighing on him at all.
Jonathan took a deep breath, stood up, and commanded, “Find a large area—at least 100,000 square kilometers—in each of the cities. If you can’t find one, demolish as many houses as necessary to build one. I’ll personally select 40,000 capable teachers and warriors to train while the academies are under construction.”
He paused, gathering himself. “Send messengers to every town and city on Earth. Every person who selected ‘None’ must report to one of the four designated cities. Move now. We’ll host another assembly when we launch this project.”
The crowd hesitated, slowly standing and murmuring to one another. Frustrated, Jonathan snapped, “Hurry!”
The room stirred to life. People scattered, each carrying the weight of the President’s orders.
Victor approached as Jonathan watched them leave. “You may still have doubts, but I guarantee this plan has the highest chance of survival for Humanity.”
“I know…” Jonathan sighed deeply, weariness etched into his face. He looked as if he’d aged ten years in just one day. “I just need time to accept it.”
Victor patted Jonathan’s shoulder reassuringly. “Keep up the good work. I’m leaving now.”
Victor strode toward his daughter and the group. Damian, passing by Jonathan, offered a brief greeting before heading off to help. He preferred staying low-key and had no desire to be seen as an enemy. Henry followed closely, exchanging polite but brief words with Jonathan before leaving to reorganize his family.
Meanwhile, Nova leaned back in his chair, a smug grin plastered on his face as he chatted with his group. He turned to Jack without getting up. “See? Took less than half an hour using my method. Ahh, it’s hard being right all the time.”
Jack’s eye twitched. Resisting the urge to curse in front of Jonathan, he turned his attention elsewhere, choosing instead to chat with the others.
Nova smirked, standing up. “It’s time for us to train. But before we announce anything to the others, I have something to tell all of you. Let’s find a place to stay at first.”
At that moment, Victor returned. “I have other properties in the city. We can go there. They should be spacious enough for everyone to live comfortably.” His protective nature, especially toward his daughter, wouldn’t allow him to let her go alone.
Thomas, trying to lighten the mood, slung an arm over Samuel’s shoulders. “Yes! Finally, we can shower!”
Samuel shot him a murderous glare. “Let. Go. Of. Me.”
Thomas froze, then awkwardly retracted his arm, laughing nervously. “Ha ha ha.”
The group exchanged amused chuckles, and even Cassidy managed a light smile, but their weary looks revealed the weight of the day settling over them.
Nova turned to Victor and said, "We should be ready to go."
Victor nodded, glancing at the group. "I'll take you to your new home."
As they nodded in agreement, he made his way toward the hall’s exit, with everyone following close behind.
