Chapter 107 - An Odd Encounter

Adriana was caught off guard when the monkey suddenly jumped on her head. That surprise, combined with its weight and odd movements as it pulled her hair, made her fall. During her fall, the monkey jumped off her head and landed a short distance away. It took her a few seconds to get herself together, and when she spotted the monkey again, it was wielding a small spear and shield.

Arctur panicked for a second when the monkey landed on his head, but he quickly recovered and, without much trouble, grabbed the monkey's tail, throwing it off. The monkey hadn’t expected that and panicked mid-air, at least at first, then recovered and landed on all fours. Without a monkey on his head, Arctur looked to Adriana and found her on the ground, trying to compose herself. Looking over at her monkey, who was also wearing a dark wooden chest piece and helmet, Arctur saw it summon a spear and shield in a flash of light. Then he remembered the bear, his gaze quickly shifting in its direction right in time to see a large paw coming for him.

Alexion decided to stop playing with the gorilla once he saw Arctur get bear-slapped to the ground. He had been having fun with the monkey and its surprising power, but in the end, it was a beast and had no real combat training. Though the elf had to admit its powerful smash move would hurt if it actually managed to hit him. Anyways, with a powerful kick, Alexion made the gorilla stumble back, a look of surprise surprisingly visible on its monkey face. Following the kick with an uppercut, the gorilla fell on its back, and Alexion jumped as high as he could, looking to come down with speed and power so he could finish the job.

Adriana was mad. Not only had the damn monkey torn some of her hair off, but it had crushed her hat and flowers. Getting up, she ignored Arctur, who had been slammed into the ground by the bear, and instead decided to get her revenge on the monkeys, both now circling her. It was an oddity in the town area, where monsters seemed so nice, waiting for people to get ready for a fight; at least, most of the time, they were. However, once the two armored monkeys saw she was ready, the spear monkey charged, while the other released an arrow from its small bow.

The bear did not stop its assault after sending him to the ground, and it continuously slammed paw after paw into his body. Arctur, who had pushed his enhancement to the max, focusing it on defensive properties, wasn’t taking much damage, but each attack still hurt. The thing was, the bear wasn’t an issue. Arctur just liked the pain. However, he didn’t want to run out of mana and decided it was time to end the fight. His eyes turned into orbs of green energy, and power rushed into him. Then he tapped into the nearby plants since there wasn’t a need to conjure any himself, and hundreds of roots erupted from the ground around the bear. With a thought, some of the roots bound the bear mid-slam while the rest pierced into its body.

Landing on the gorilla's face and squishing its head like a fruit, Alexion was glad to find his clothes already cleaning themselves. The fight had scratched his itch for the time being, and he watched his teammates. Arctur, the pervert, was letting the bear smack him. Then it seemed his friend was done having fun, and roots tore apart the bear, though his friend stayed in his hole in the ground.

Meanwhile, the monkey with the bow had his head explode as his girlfriend used her Mind Magic to devastating effect. As for the other monkey, well, its spear and shield were frozen over and lying on the ground while it was being held afloat by invisible chains.

Adriana was going on a rant, the monkey staring at her in confusion while she explained the reasons why he was not supposed to rip women's hair off. The rant also included the fact that it had ruined her hat and flowers, which was also not very nice. Basically, she was just having fun because once she finished, the monkey’s head also exploded, blood splashing against her shield. Then she grabbed her hat, turned around, and gave him a big smile, making him fall in love all over again.

“Well, that was fun,” Alexion said as the trio continued their walk.

“Yeah, though it's odd seeing monsters act like that,” Adriana added, pointing out how unaggressive their foes had been.

“It's both good and bad. I feel like it might set the wrong expectations for beginners. That bear wasn’t actually trying to kill me, even if it seemed that way. So, when they meet with actual threats, they might not be ready for them,” Arctur responded.

“I am not so sure about that, Arctur. You forget we are trained for this and were able to notice that difference, but for newbies, that fight would seem like actual life or death,” Alexion noted, and Arctur had to agree.

“By the way, we never got the thing that shot the lightning. Do you guys think it got scared or something?” Adriana pointed out, and the other two nodded in agreement. Then, everyone checked the notification they had received during the fight.

  ??

The achievement was nice to see, but it was nothing special, and the trio dismissed it, picking up speed.

They arrived back at the town without further incident and were soon at The Misty Mushroom, where Misty thanked them for the flowers. Naturally, that completed their quest, and as the reward indicated, they were offered another quest.

  ?? Crystal Notice ??

  ?? Quest Details??

  Name: Froggy Mushrooms.

Description: After completing your first quest for Misty, she has asked you to help her once again. Misty asks that you head down to The Frog Lake to find and harvest some Ribbit Mushrooms. She says she will use the mushrooms to craft a potion that will surely be of use to you and your party.

Reward: A Quest and a Potion.

  ??

The party accepted the quest without thought and left the alchemist, but quickly ran into a problem they hadn’t thought about nor had they been told about.

“Wait, what happens if we leave the dungeon while a quest is active?” Adriana asked.

“Huh, I didn’t think about that. Did we just waste all our time completing her quest?” Her boyfriend questioned.

“I don’t think it's that big of a deal. We can do something else if we lose the quest. Though I doubt we would lose the quest, it would be silly to have to restart everything if we had to leave in an emergency. Either way, we will find out soon enough,” Arctur stated, semi-confidently.

With that in mind, the party headed towards the town square to get in line for the teleporters. Upon arrival, they were rudely surprised to see the line stretching around the town square three times. Eventually, they finally made it to the teleporters inside the building. Upon stepping on said teleporters, they were notified of the exact thing they had been wondering about.

  ?? Crystal Notice ??

Warning! You are leaving the dungeon while having Active Quests.

Most Quests will be lost when the dungeon resets.

While certain Event Quests are lost upon leaving the dungeon.

  ??

Thankfully, upon asking a host, they were told their active quest wasn’t an event quest, so if they left the lobby, they would be fine. And with that, the trio walked out, already excited to come in the morning, with plans to stay for the entire month.

After a few resets, Dan’s monsters had become fully accustomed to their jobs. This meant fighting, dying, and generally interacting with adventurers or other explorers. The first month had been the hardest for everyone since they had gone from fighting monsters and sometimes each other to actually dealing with adventurers. There had been a few deaths on the explorer's side, but not enough to be of concern, and often caused when idiots overestimated themselves.

For the most part, when his monsters defeated adventurers, they tended to knock them out and leave them be. If the adventurer was extremely wounded and on the verge of dying from blood loss or something like it. Then, Dan would often be notified and would direct one of his healing monsters that way. All in all, through a combination of various efforts, adventurer deaths had been kept to a minimum. Of course, the issue was that adventurers could become too cocky, which was why Dan made sure to make a spectacle when someone did die.

He would make a proceeding through his dungeon in the main base of the area where the adventurer died. The proceeding then accomplished the job of spreading the fact that people could die, which in turn made sure took keep cocky levels to respectable levels.

Overall, things were going great, and Dan had been able to stabilize things due to how the infusion of adventurers had gone. There had been a healthy mix of strength in the D Rankers, with no common folk having been brought in during the first dive. This changed during the second dive, after most had gained a decent understanding of things.

Due to his measured introduction of outsiders to his dungeon, his monsters had been able to adapt. The main thing had been Dan wanting them to understand how other humanoids worked. Since, from his dungeon creations' perspective, things outsiders did might seem odd. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for his monster to come to terms with everything.

In the end, all of his creations learned that in the eyes of the outsiders, they were not the same, at least not fully. Sure, they could work together on certain occasions, but it was best not to get attached to anyone else, as they might be part of the enemy faction in the next reset. The only exception was Typic Town’s npcs, which Dan had created to basically always work with adventurers.

Anyways, all of this to say that Dan had gotten lots of feelings of confusion during the first month as his monsters processed everything. Then, during the second month, any confusion had significantly declined since his monsters had gained an understanding of the outsiders. Of course, there was still fear and anger as his monsters fought or were overwhelmed, but things had mostly stabilized. This meant that when he got an extremely large jolt of confusion and fear through his connection, so much so that it broke through the mental dampeners he had placed, Dan had to take a look.

Taking a look at the situation, Dan had to agree that from his beast's perspective, it didn’t make sense. It was their first time encountering this particular situation, as most people simply killed the monsters regardless of what happened.

Meaning that his bear didn’t understand why the green man wasn’t fighting back, and was simply smiling like a fool as his body was smashed into the ground. It seemed like the man was enjoying the pain; in fact, the bear could smell the arousal emanating from the nature spirit, monster, or man creature he was fighting, an arousal that increased with every slam.

Also confused was the baboon, who was being held afloat with magic as a blue-haired lady yelled at him about hair, flowers, and hats. The baboon simply couldn’t comprehend what was happening; he had been fighting, and from what he understood, anything went in a fight. More importantly, why was the lady reprimanding him? He tried to kill her. Why wasn’t she killing him!? It just didn’t make any sense, and Dan had to agree.
