Chapter 12: I didnt sign up for this

Thita cursed inside him, trying to get the wolf off him as hard as he could. He had already received plenty of scratches from the wolf's attacks, which only made it more difficult for him to flee.

'Just one second. I turn my back for one second and this happens!? Just how much more unlucky I have to be?'

It was true that the world always tended to be harsh on him, but at this point, he couldn't help but be mad for this unfairness.

He couldn't spend more time to think about such trivial matters though. He had to do something about his situation and fast.

The wolf had attacked him from behind the moment he decided to look towards his party, as if it was waiting for a chance to sneak up on him.

To make matters worse, unlike the other wolves, this one was a lot bigger in size. Even a bit bigger than those Thita knew in his previous world.

Because of that, Thita struggled to shake it off. Moeover, with his knife being still stuck on top of the head of the wolf he killed before, he had no weapon in his disposal.

Meanwhile the wolf kept scratching Thita with all its might, trying to reach his head as hard as it could despite Thita's hand barrier. In response, Thita kept his hands locked and the wolf as far as he could from his face.

'Didn't you get bored already bastard? Let's see how you like being in pain!'

Without a second though, Thita raised his knee and hit the wolf's groin his all his might.

The wolf eyes widened the moment it recieved the hit, stopping it's movements momentarily as the pain kicked in. Taking that chance, Thita pushed it with all his might, with his arms still on it's neck.

The wolf, unable to resist in time, got pushed back and ended up on the ground, it's front facing upwards and Thita on top of it with his arms still on it's neck.

'Let's see how you do in my place bastard!'

Not wasting a second, Thita shifted his arms. Now with his hands being the ones touching the wolf's neck. Finishing his changes, Thita then pressed down on it's neck with as much pressure as possible, while also tightening his grip on it's neck.

In exchange, not being able to breath, the wolf started struggling, moving his limbs uncontrollably and with as much power as it could, scratching and hitting Thita as much as it could. It's effort were in vain though, since that didn't stop Thita in the least.

In a few seconds, the wolf stopped struggling, it's eyes becoming lifeless and it's previous fury turning into nothing. It was dead.

Seeing his opponent dead, Thita removed his hands and tried to regain his breath.

'I.. I didn't sign up for this shit.'

At least, he had won at last.

Meanwhile, while Thita was fighting for his life, the others finally finished with their own share of wolves.

Both Paul and Alex had heard what was going on behind their backs from Leslie so they couldn't rest just yet. The battle wasn't over.

Running towards Thita's location with worried expressions, they finally reached the place where Leslie last saw him. What they saw though when they reached him, was nothing alike to what they expected.

Thita sat there silently, on top of the fallen pack leader's body with a calm expression filled with injuries. He looked tired though and in pain, but his eyes were still serious, as if he didn't wanted to let his guard down again.

Unlike Thita though, the pack leader's body was in a worse state, with it's neck covered in blood. It's neck wasn't the only part of it's body which was covered in blood, since the wolf appeared to also be bleeding from the area it's heart was supposed to be, as if it was stabbed with a sharp object later.

Witnessing the horrifying sight, the three of them couldn't help but shiver with how terrifying their newest party member was.

Not wanting to keep the deadly silence continue, Alex ended up being the one to break it.

"Thita.. Are you... are you okay?"

His tone sounded full of concern, but there seemed a bit of fear hidden on it.

Hearing him, Thita took a moment before answering.

  "Not in the slightest."

His tone indicated exhaustion, but Alex couldn't help but feel like there was more to it.

Not a moment after he said that though, Leslie rushed towards him with a hurried and concerning look on her face. Getting closer to him, she got on her knees and placed her hand on Thita's stomach.

"Please stay still! You need to be healed immediately or this can be extremely fatal!"

Hearing her, Thita didn't move and let her do as she pleased. He had no reason to resist anyways.

Moment after Leslie placed her hands on Thita's wounds, a soft green light appeared on her hands and the wounds she touched, started closing with a slow steady pace.

  ***

Feeling and seeing his wounds closing, Thita couldn't help but be amazed with just how fast such severe wounds started healing. It was a truly fascinating thing to witness, especially for him.

'So this is magic. How curious.'

Feeling the warm sensation run though his body, he felt at peace, as if everything that happened moments ago was just nothing more than a bad memory.

  "So Thita, what happened?"

Being brought back to reality by Paul's question, he answered nonchalantly.

"I was fighting the wolves that attacked us from behind until this big one attacked me from behind. Still, somehow I managed to kill it with a bit of luck."

This was of course a very short answer compared to what happened, but he didn't wanted to spend a lot of time explaining. It would waste time and he didn't trust them enough yet.

On the other hand, hearing Thita's answer, Paul sighted and spoke.

"You are truly impressive my friend. Killing a pack leader on our first hunt and all by yourself? I really need to get stronger or I might get left behind in the dust with newbies like you."

"Enough talk Paul! He is too injured to have to deal with your pointless talking!"

Leslie said to Paul with a serious tone. She then averted her gaze and looked at Thita.

"Here, I have healed you the best I could. Still, you need to rest for some time before you can take another combat mission."

Leslie said with concern as she stood up. She looked exhausted though, as if healing him caused her to her tired.

'Looks like there is a price you have to pay for using magic. That's a relief.'

Still, he nodded after hearing Leslie. He wasn't planning to start another combat quest any time soon anyways so resting was a good option.

Getting her reassurance, Leslie felt relieved. Turing to face the other two, she spoke excitedly.

"With that out of the way then, I believe that we have cleared out mission just fine. Let's pick up as many bodies as we can every--......!"

Her sentence was never finished though. With a loud gasp, Leslie fell with force on the ground close to where Thita was sitting.

Her eyes were now lifeless though and her a bit of blood was flowing from her forehead, as she faced the sky. She was dead, with the end of an arrow being visible on her forehead.

  That wasn't all though.

For some reason, it was as if ice was spreading through the wound.
