My sight comes back and as I look around I’m utterly astonished. If I didn’t know any better I would swear this was real. As I look around I see a long winding path that leads to a small town. The was small enough that all it had was basic wooden fence walls going all around it with an opening that looked like it spanned approximately 12 feet across. I see 2 guards at the opening talking to people as they come up and waving them through after a few seconds.
I take a deep breath and start walking towards the town. As I do I reach out with my senses and notice everything feels so real. I can feel the pebbles below my feet as I walk over them, I can smell the fresh air from the nice breeze. I can even hear what sounds like a few blue jays yapping at each other.
As I get about halfway to the gate I notice a blinking message sign in the corner of my screen. It’s at this point I realized that I was so entranced with the place I never even thought to check my status, my gear, or anything about the actual “game” I was playing. With that in mind I think to myself status. Suddenly a blue box shows up that has all sorts of information on it.
As I look at my status I feel that I can mentally click on each box and find out more information. I quickly go through and click each one and read the contents.
Being able to see exactly how everything is calculated is really nice I think to myself. I can now properly plan out how I want to build my character without worrying about wasting points because I don’t know how it will affect them. It was also interesting to notice that all classes use the same modifier for regen instead of having something like Wisdom for Mages, not to mention there was no Dexterity stat. The one thing that really confounded me though is that when clicking on “Free Attributes” I didn’t get any information except what looked like an error.
While confused, I figure there is nothing I can do about it now except maybe open a ticket but first I think to look at my messages as maybe there is something in there about an upcoming patch to fix the issue. Instead when I finish reading I don’t really know what to think.
I quickly go back to my Character Sheet and and click on "Free Attributes" again. What I see makes me both laugh and cry.
I don’t feel like doing the math but it looks like I gain 0 attributes my first few levels and by level 100 I will gain 100 attributes. It’s clear that I will over time get more than a normal person but still, 0!!???? What kind of bullshit is that?
Spoiler: Spoiler
For those interested and don’t feel like doing the math. A normal character will have a total of 545 stats at level 100 and Mathias will have 2146. Below is a chart for those people who really want to see it at a per level basis.
Spoiler: Spoiler
I sigh to myself and close the windows. Nothing I can really do about it now. I am actually kinda excited to be able to create all my own spells though. Having the flexibility to do that sounds like a cheat....at least when I figure out exactly how to actually do it. Either way I continue walking towards the town taking in all my surroundings.
As I reach the gate and get in line behind a few other people I am able to get a closer look at everything. First thing I notice is that while there are a few other races here, mainly dwarves and elves, most are human people coming and going are human. I guess this starter town is based in a more human area while other races start in other locations.
The second thing I see is that the 2 guards in the front are both themselves human which gives more credence to my thought that this is a human town. Both are wearing a metal chestguard while the rest of their armor seems to be a high quality leather. One has what looks to be a halberd next to him while the other has a sword at his waist and a shield on his back.
As I get to the front the guard with the sword and shield holds out his hand and asks for my identification card.
I look at him puzzled for a second then reply, “Identification card? I don’t have one yet. I’m a traveller and this is my first time here..”
The guard smiles and says, “Well then welcome, my name is Grif! This is the town of Braxis in the country of Elandra. To get an identification card you can do one of three things. First you can go to the town hall and register there. I recommend doing that if you don’t really know what you want to do going forward. However if you know your path then you have two choices. For a crafter, I suggest going to the Crafting Hall and registering there as it saves you a step. Alternatively if you’re going to be an adventurer I you should go to the Adventure Hall and register there. Now what’s your name sir? I’m going to make a note of your entry and you’ll need to come back by the end of the day and show us your card if you don’t want to get in trouble.”
“Great thanks for the information. I’ll go ahead and take care of that first thing” I start walking through the gate and then a stop suddenly and turn around. “Um...where is the Adventure Hall?”
Grif grinned and said, “Follow the main road until you get to the town square. From there take a right and you can’t miss it.”
“Thanks again!”
