If hell ever exists then it isn't a fiery pit with demons poking you with pitchforks,no hell is an endless Excel spreadsheet running on Windows, inside a basement that smells like floor wax and despair.

I had been sitting at my desk in the Logistics Department for four hours.

"One crate of 9mm rounds... check.

Five hundred rolls of toilet paper for Sector 7... check.

Replacement tactical vest for Agent... who cares... check."

I typed, I clicked, I sighed. My office was essentially a cubicle farm in the bowels of the Hub. The people here weren't the cool spies jumping out of planes, they were the ones ordering the parachutes. Most of them were middle-aged, balding, and looked like they hadn't seen the sun since the Clinton administration.

But a Gamer doesn't complain, a Gamer grinds his ass off . I tapped my pen against the desk and focused on the floating blue window that only I could see.

  [Skill Proficiency: Observe (Level 1) - 14%]

I had been spamming Observe on everyone who walked by as it was the only way to keep my sanity. A sweaty guy walked past me with a box of donuts.

  [Target: Gary from Accounting]

  [Level: 3]

  [Status: Pre-diabetic]

A strict-looking woman in a grey suit marched toward the printer.

  [Target: Senior Analyst Halloway]

  [Level: 8]

[Status: Menopausal / Angry at husband]

"Boring, Boring, Gross, Boring," I muttered, resting my chin on my hand. I checked my own stats again.

  Charm: 15

That was my golden ticket, In a room full of trolls and goblins figuratively speaking , a Charm of 15 made me look like a god damn movie star, young brad pitt kinda charm.

I'd caught Halloway glancing at me twice. She probably thought I was fresh meat but not my type, lady, definitely not my type.

I need someone who doesn't look like they eat raw lemons for breakfast and botox for lunch and ah yes ,it's lunch time and My stomach rumbled.

It was 12:30 Pm, I stood up, stretching my stiff back. My Strength stat of 9 really made itself known; sitting in a chair actually made me physically tired. I needed to hit the SHIELD gym eventually, but first I had a Side Quest to complete and reap rewards from.

  [SIDE QUEST: First Blood]

Objective: Secure a date (or more) with a SHIELD employee.

I walked toward the break room/cafeteria area. The layout of the Hub was strict.

Level 1 agents like myself had limited access. We couldn't go to the cool floors where Nick Fury and Black widow hung out.

We were stuck with the support staff but support staff included old man and secretaries in 2006 SHIELD uniforms....not my taste, then I spotted her near the vending machine.

She wasn't a supermodel nor was she the Black Widow but in this ocean of mediocrity, she was a mermaid.

Blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail, glasses that kept sliding down her nose, and a skirt that hugged hips which were honestly too good for government work. I narrowed my eyes.

  [Observe]

  [Target: Jessica "Jess" Miller]

  [Occupation: Junior Archivist]

  [Level: 2]

[Mood: Desperate / Low Blood Sugar]

  [Desire: Something sweet.

The vending machine ate her dollar]

  [Affection: 0/100 (Stranger)]

  Bingo

I felt a grin tugging at the corner of my lips. The System practically gift-wrapped this one.I stepped back into the hallway, out of sight and concentrated on my Inventory.

  Equip: Midnight Essence Cologne

A fine mist materialized in the air in front of me,as I walked through it, letting the scent settle on my cheap grey t-shirt, It smelled like cedarwood, expensive musk, and fresh flowers.

  [Buff Applied: Scent of Intrigue]

[Effect: +2 Charm for 4 hours.

  Target curiosity increased.]

Next, I reached into the inventory void and pulled out the Luxury Swiss Chocolates.

I popped the box open, took out a small, gold-foiled truffle, and palmed it then i put the box back into the inventory. It's Showtime darling .

I rounded the corner. Jessica was currently shaking the vending machine, her frustration visible. "Come on, you piece of junk," she hissed, slapping the glass, a bag of pretzels hung precariously on the coil.

"Careful," I said, leaning against the wall with what I hoped was a casual, cool pose.

"I heard this machine is a Hydra sleeper agent and It attacks when provoked."

Jessica jumped, spinning around, her eyes went wide when she saw me or maybe she just smelled the cologne.

"Oh! I... I didn't see you there."I pushed off the wall and walked over,i didn't look at her face immediately; I let my eyes do a quick, appreciative sweep of her body...discreetly, of course.

My Poker Face skill kept my expression friendly, hiding the fact that I was mentally calculating her measurements.

"Let me guess," I said, gesturing to the machine. "It took your money?"

"My last dollar," she sighed, pushing her glasses up. "And I skipped breakfast so I'm literally about to pass out."i smiled thinking thank you machine. "A tragedy indeed, SHIELD can stop alien invasions but they can't keep the snack machine running."

I held out my hand. "I'm Toby. Toby Dick."

She blinked, and I saw the corner of her mouth twitch, She wanted to laugh at the name. Good, Laughter was an opening .

"Jessica," she said, shaking my hand.

Her hand was soft."and yeah... unfortunate luck." "Well, Jessica," I said, dropping my voice an octave , a trick I learned from a pickup artist forum in my past life. "Today is your lucky day." I opened my hand and the gold-foiled Swiss truffle sat there, glinting under the fluorescent lights.

"I can't get your dollar back," I said smoothly. "But I can offer a superior alternative, a Swiss dark chocolate which is Way better than stale pretzels." Her eyes locked onto the chocolate.

[System Alert: Target's Desire has shifted to The Chocolate]

"Are you serious?" she asked, looking up at me. "Where did you even get that, the commissary only sells generic candy bars."

"I have my sources," I winked. "Logistics perks, We get the good imports before they hit the warehouses."I lied as easily as breathing and Poker Face was triggered again. She hesitated for a second, then took the chocolate, She immediately unwrapped it and popped it into her mouth.

Her eyes fluttered closed for a second.

"Oh yaaa .... my god," she moaned softly.

That sound alone was worth the entire price.

  [Affection Increased: +5]

  [Current Affection: 5/100 (Acquaintance)]

She opened her eyes, smiling at me. It was a genuine smile this time. "Okay, Toby. You just saved my life. Seriously." "Don't mention it," I said,"but..." I paused, pretending to check the time on my cheap watch."If you really want to thank me, you could tell me where a guy can get decent coffee around here. The sludge in the break room tastes like battery acid and dishwash."

She laughed. "I know a place. There's a cart outside the West Gate that isn't officially sanctioned, but the bagels are amazing.

I was actually going to sneak out there for lunch." She looked at me, a silent invitation hanging in the air.

[Quest Update: The Opening Move ]

[Choice: Ask to join her ]

[Success Chance: 85% (Thanks to Charm 17 + Chocolate)]

"Lead the way,my lady" I said, gesturing down the hall."I'll buy the bagels if you provide the company."Jessica blushed slightly. "Deal."

As we walked down the hallway together, I felt the familiar vibration in my skull.

  [First Blood Quest Progress: 10%]

  [Target Acquired: Jessica Miller]

I glanced at her profile again.

  [Inventory Check: 19 Chocolates remaining]

This was going to be too easy but as I looked at the sway of her hips and her jiggly buttocks as she walked ahead of me, I realized something, I needed money.

Bagels and coffee are something I could afford but if I wanted to upgrade to dinners, hotels, and the kind of lifestyle that kept a woman like this...or better interested, a Level 1 salary wasn't going to cut it.

I needed to start my side hustle and I had seen something in the Logistics manifest earlier.

  Crate #404. Confiscated Electronics.

  Scheduled for incineration.

My Gamer brain swirled.Incineration? Or... rapid liquidation via eBay? Amazon ? easy money ??.

"Coming, Toby?" Jessica called out, holding the door open. "Right behind you," I replied, my eyes lingering on her legs.

  "Right behind you...."
