Strive 34: An Unexpected Visitor

  Narrator's POV

The Supernaturals had set out to explore the first yer to teach the newcomers a thing or two about exploration.

It wasn't meant to be an all-out mission, but a tour of what to do in this dark and creepy world.

The seven yers of hell were not an easy feat to conquer.

A hell that was not possible to escape unless you were built to defeat it. Supernaturals were a group of people who resisted the harsh and cold reality that the human race faced.

The attack from many years ago was so dreadful, so fearful, that the whole race would have gone extinct.

The underground was full of mystery and unknown answers that might or might not reveal why they had attacked a section of Tokyo that had been meant for tourists.

  For example....

  Psshh...

Like a gas leak, the sound of the air was soft yet loud. Familiar yet unknown. It was like you were walking inside a refrigerator with a gas humming in the center of it.

And that gas was being frozen in the air. It left this uncomfortable smell in the atmosphere.

Now, it depended on WHAT kind of gas you would be seeing, or hearing, for that matter.

In the midst of this cold and foggy air, the Supernaturals were hiding behind a boulder because of an unknown producer of the fog.

It was unfamiliar to the veterans of the Supernaturals who had looked up and down the first yer. And nothing like that had ever happened. Something so strange, so uncommon, that it armed the warnings inside the veterans of the Supernaturals' heads.

The first to realize this strange fog was Akuma.

Though not as sharp as Yosei or even Kujira due to their skills and powers, like a huntress, Akuma came second to none.

And there was one thing that she had an advantage in over the other two. That was instinct.

  Instinct.

An ability that everyone had inside of them. The strong or the weak, every st one of them had some kind of instinct. It was just a matter of HOW strong the instinct was.

Since humans were a type of mammal, it was no surprise they exhibited some animal-like behaviors or even skills.

And instincts were the top skills mankind possessed.

  At any rate....

  Shh....

A cool-like sound hummed around the Supernaturals. Like a gust of wind, the sound made the Supernaturals be on top of their game and try to keep their guard up.

Akuma was peeking out of the hiding spot with her friends.

The air around her was so uncomfortable that you could say it was hard to breathe. It was normal to think that the air was unnatural.

Akuma slowly reached out to her bck boots and hovered her hand over them.

Yosei's hand slowly reached out to Akuma's shoulder, and she peeked out as well. "Calm down. If we act recklessly, then we'll all be in danger."

Yosei softly wrote some letters in foreign nguages. The origin of the nguage was Latin. A source of these magical spells, she had learned over the years. But that was a story for another time.

To keep it brief, Yosei was a skillful warrior, and what you could say was a jack of all trades. She might not have been a spell caster like you would hear in the stories, but her self-taught skills had improved her magic core and increased her knowledge on how to use them.

  "How?" you might ask.

That was another story for another time.

All we could say was that Yosei was extraordinary. It was the main reason she was the group leader.

"What's that?" Kibishi whispered in surprise. His brow raised high as he tried to sit up. But Kujira stopped him and summoned a long golden staff. At the edge of it was a monster-like head symbolizing a snake, more like a serpent.

"I'll cast something to hide our presence," Kujira whispered as she pulled Taoreta's body closer. Kujira gently lifted Taoreta's body near Kibishi and made their backs rest against each other. Almost as if they were sitting behind each other. Watching each other's backs, you could say.

"Wait... a serpent? You're a serpent supernatural?!" Taoreta whispered to Kujira while trying to move as softly as possible.

"Close enough. More like Cetus!" Kujira whispered with a smile. She was proud of her type of supernatural powers. No. More like her 'origin' of the source of her powers.

"Got it!" Yosei nodded to herself as the final word was written. It spelled "forcefield," and a giant yellow energy ball appeared and disappeared instantly. It might have seemed gone, but it was still there. Yosei also cast another magic with the force field.

"What's she doing?" Kibishi asked due to his confusion. He had never seen Yosei do anything like that before. And to him, it seemed like it had popped up out of nowhere and would need an expnation.

"We'll expin- shit!" Akuma, who was looking at Kibishi for answers, noticed something moving towards them with great speed.

  Crash!

Like fireworks, the giant boulder was smashed into smithereens.

There was nothing left but dust and some pieces of rock falling from the sky. Those rocks came from the boulder that had been there a few seconds ago.

The movement of that 'object' appeared like a blur to the naked human eye.

If any human had been trying to hide from that type of speed, then they would have been dead, unaware that 'it' could match the speed of sound.

  Crumble. Crumble.

The rocks were hitting that 'thing' that had attacked the Supernaturals. 'It' had sensed them the moment they arrived. But the moment Akuma moved in a certain way, 'it' detected her and went with its instinct....

The rain of rocks slowly disappeared. Only smoke was left from the attack.

The veterans of the group, the Supernaturals, managed to escape before they could get crushed by the fang of the 'thing' that had detected them.

Right then, the Supernaturals were hiding beside a broken building.

They weren't inside it, though. Oh no, far from that. The veterans knew that if they made a rookie mistake and tried to hide indoors, they might end up being attacked by the unknown creatures lurking outside.

A beast that could tackle them with all its might, AND was about to find them, must have had creatures behind it. Heck, maybe Forbiddens as well.

Just like years ago with the first attack, while hiding was the best tactic, doing that with a powerful being around could spell doom for them. The creatures or the Forbiddens could give a screeching signal to give their 'boss' a sign that the food was alive and well.

And even if the Forbiddens or creatures didn't view the Supernaturals as food, they all could be dead despite their experiences. The veterans, that is.

The Supernaturals had rookies with them and didn't want to cause any trouble.

They knew that they themselves could handle an escape route. But with two rookies who didn't have any training being in this deadly time, it could spell the end for all of them.

Truth be told, having the rookies there was more of a burden than help. Any 'sane' person would have left them behind as food for the creatures and Forbiddens to eat.

But Akuma, Kujira, and Yosei were different.

Sane as they might have been, having someone as bait for their own survival meant leaving their humanity behind. To them, having another life taken just for survival meant foolishness and a hint of selfishness.

If they had to run without the rookies, then it MUST be because they had no choice.

But the three veterans weren't like that.

They would NEVER abandon anyone without trying all the options.

  "Run away!"

  "I'm leaving you behind!"

"I won't get myself killed for anyone!"

Those were examples of SOME humans' mindset when it came down to it. And no one could bme them for thinking that way. Your instinct would demand that you survive no matter the cost. That was how any human would feel. Kind or mean, all humans had that mindset at least once.

  But.

It was the DECISION on whether you would act on that instinct.

  Akuma. Kujira. Yosei.

Their minds knew that Kibishi and Taoreta were slowing them down. Leaving them behind would significantly increase their survival rate.

It was only natural that the weak be left behind while the strong survived because of their power. Psychological or mental.

  Yet...

"Are you two okay?" Akuma whispered to Kibishi and Taoreta.

"Yeah," Kibishi and Taoreta nodded. They were both sitting next to each other. Lying on the wall of the building, Yosei and Kujira were bending one knee and watching over them.

"You sure? No wounds? No damage?" Yosei whispered while holding Kibishi's chin and turning his face to check for a hint of scratches.

"I-I'm fine, thanks..." Kibishi blushed while ughing nervously.

"No wounds here either, Yosei." Kujira was doing the same thing as Yosei with Taoreta.

Taoreta was blushing from this experience as well.

"Good. We moved a bit better than I thought. We moved too te, so I'm gd we were able to get away!" Yosei smiled brightly at Kibishi. Yosei let go of Kibishi's chin, not before being hesitant for some strange reason. Yosei wanted to do something, but brushed off that idea and focused on the task at hand.

Wait, did she want to do something else just now? Kibishi thought.

The way Yosei moved just now was almost like a parent finding a lost child. Taoreta narrowed her eyes. No, I'm just imagining things. Besides, she would have done the same thing with everyone else due to her being a leader.

There were more questions building up. In more ways than one. First about the world and then about those who were close to the Supernaturals.

While Kibishi and Taoreta wanted some answers more than ever, they knew that they would have to wait for ter.

  Shing!

A pair of glowing red eyes was staring from the dust. A growl was heard from within the dust as well. It would not be long before that 'thing' started moving again.

Who knew what 'it' had within its sleeves.

The Supernaturals would need to focus one hundred percent on the threat at hand before anything else, right then.

What would 'it's' next move be?
