Inside Xin Region's Palace
A woman lay in a posture of absolute repose, her head resting against the high, crystalline back of a chair that seemed carved from a single, immense shard of glacial wood. Tiny, intricate fractals and frozen blossoms were captured within its depths, shimmering with a soft, internal light that cast gentle blue hues across the room.
Her complexion was a vision of flawless fairness, her skin possessing the smooth, unblemished texture of a youthful maiden, belying the weight of years and rule she carried. Long, dark lashes rested against her cheeks, her eyes closed in tranquil meditation. A soft, wordless hum resonated in her throat, a melody that was both ancient and soothing, weaving through the silent, frost-kissed air as if she were alone in all the world. Draped in a simple night robe of silver-white silk that pooled around her like liquid moonlight, she seemed less a queen and more a celestial spirit temporarily at rest, an otherworldly beauty stolen from a forgotten myth.
The profound quiet was gently broken by a sound both firm and respectful: a calm, measured knock on her room door.
She did not stir, did not open her eyes or turn her head. She simply ceased her humming and, after a heartbeat’s pause that stretched comfortably in the spacious chamber of a room, she asked, her voice a low, melodious ripple in the stillness, “What is it?”
A deep, male voice answered from the other side of the door, muffled yet clear, filled with unwavering deference. “My Queen, the guest you said I should inform you of, are about to cross the gate of Xin.”
A slight, almost imperceptible tilt of her head followed his words. “Is the younger girl with them?” she asked, her tone still infused with that same unshakable calm, as if she were inquiring about the weather.
The guard’s reply was immediate. “Yes, My Queen. She is with them.”
At this confirmation, A slow, deliberate smile graced her features. It was not a smile of warmth, but one of deep, private satisfaction, a subtle curving of lips that held the weight of centuries. She let the silence stretch again, savoring the information. “Alright,” she said finally, the word a soft dismissal. “You may leave and do what I assigned you to do when they come.”
“Yes, My Queen.” The sound of boots on polished stone echoed faintly, then faded away as the guard departed.
Silence descended once more, thicker and more profound than before. The Queen, finally, opened her eyes. They were a striking, luminous amber, the color of ancient fossilized resin caught in the light, and they glowed with an intelligence that was both ancient and knowing. Her gaze drifted as she let a deep, weary sigh escape her lips, a cloud of mist forming in the air before her. The serene mask of her features softened.
Stolen story; please report.
“Calamity,” she muttered, the name a whisper that was swallowed by the immense, frozen room. It was not spoken with fear, but with a strange, serene acceptance. Her amber eyes narrowed slightly, as if viewing a memory projected onto the cold air. "You’ve really changed…"

Outside Xin Region
The walls of Xin Region shimmered faintly under the pale night sky, the entire expanse enclosed by a vast wall of frost that seemed to breathe with its own life. The frost wall curved endlessly into the distance, glimmering with a translucent hue as if the greater stars themselves had been caught and frozen within its surface. It wasn’t just a wall of ice, but a presence, ancient, unyielding, and majestic.
Emma slowed her steps as they neared the towering frost gate, her silver-white hair catching the faint blue glow that poured from the wall. Liz trudged along at her side, her emerald eyes flickering restlessly from one detail to another, while Dan, taller than both of them, kept his arms tucked deep into his black coat, his head low, ignoring the gate ahead. Jett walked in front, her long beast-pelt coat sweeping behind her, her pale gray eyes steady as she lead the way...
Just as the group closed in, the ground beneath their boots gave a muted crunch, frost gathering against the cracks of the blue stone path. A sudden ripple of frost spread through the air, and then, like mirages solidifying into existence, two towering figures materialized before the frost gate.
The guardians stood taller than an average human, their shoulders broad, their limbs plated with frost armor that seemed to have grown directly from their bodies. Their very forms shimmered, not entirely flesh, not entirely ice, something in-between. Blue light pulsed faintly from within them, radiating outward in a calm, steady rhythm, as if they carried the very heartbeat of the frost itself. Their faces, if they could be called that, were hidden beneath helms of crystalline ice, shaped perfectly as it glowed faintly with the same calm aura of an ancient entity.
“These Are Frost Guardians,” Jett spoke calmly, her tone clear, matter-of-fact. “Protectors of Xin Region's gate. Nothing enters without their consent.”
The guardians heads tilted downward, regarding them in silence. Then, without a word, they turned. Their massive hands covered in frost-armor that shimmered like diamonds, pressed against the enormous frost gate. The sound that followed was deep and resonant, a groan of ancient ice shifting under immense weight. Slowly, the gate opened, its surface glowing brighter with each movement, light spilling through the widening crack until the whole path ahead was bathed in frost-blue brilliance.
Emma’s breath misted in front of her as her eyes widened.
The moment they stepped through, the world on the other side struck her silent.
Xin Region stretched wide, an illuminated wonder of frost and light, alive in ways she hadn’t expected. The very ground before them was tiled in frost-blue stone, each slab glimmering faintly as though infused with some inner crystal. Snow gathered gently at the edges, soft and untouched, while lining the sides of the path were tall frost-lamps. Each lamp bore a crystal flame, glowing with an otherworldly blue that poured warmth across the snowy night. The lamps stood in a perfect line, their light falling over the tiles in steady intervals, casting thin shadows that danced with every flicker.
