Ch 88: Divine Machinations

Yorun walks through the dirt road in Kurinet, the air is light and the sun shines brightly and he is younger with no burns as he sees people walking around enjoying their simple lives yet their faces are hazy as if their features are there but they just can't be made out. Yorun sees his home and walks towards it not noticing the faces until he feels something unfamiliar, weird in terms of magic and in a way that feels all too unnatural and strong before the pain sets in and darkness comes in to make way for the light as he springs up awake within his room in the Ghozi city. He feels his head and chest pounding as he breathes heavily, it feels like he had just narrowly escaped death.

"Why back then? The mind is a weird thing, making even normal days into a sudden nightmare" Yorun said to himself

Despite waking up and trying to shake the event from his memory, his body refused to calm and he can still feel magic in the air, the same kind from the nightmare but now he knows it. Divine magic swirls everywhere like a typhoon across creation yet specifically one god's magic working oh so naturally during every moment disrupted and changed by something, Yorun stands and his body feels wrong, his soul feels like it's dislodging slowly from his body.

  "W-what's happening?" Yorun asked

"Heltior, he decided to take on the consequences and did something to get rid of you" A voice that progressively sounded older said

"Who a-are you?" Yorun said as he looked around for the voice

"You know me, you sense me" The voice said before it turned young once more

"Okranam" Yorun said before everything around him froze in time

Okranam and Raeknar both appear within the room, Raeknar looking like a distorted version of Heltiors chosen that Yorun saw while Okranam looks like a progressively aging elf.

"Heltior, he sent his chosen through time to kill you. Undo all that happened after" Raeknar said

"He can't do that.... Can he?" Yorun asked as he looked to Okranam

"Any of them can but only I craft the future should I wish too, he tries to force my hand, divide time or fix it to how he wishes but no I will not play his game" Okranam said before waving a hand and Yorun began to feel better

"I can undo this in oh so many ways but I would rather make them know. My neutrality in this skirmish between gods is so easily tipped towards Raeknars side as they have never once tried to manipulate past events without asking me" Okranam said

  "What's the plan?" Yorun asked

"I shall send you there to save your life and the future your family lived, you must be careful not too create too many differences, paradoxes as you mortals perceive them are inconsequential yet mildly irritating even if I can keep them with no trouble" Okranam said

"This'll show them not to mess with your domain?" Yorun asked

"I have never once sent a mortal through time, I have never taken a chosen and only twice in history have I interacted with mortals in this fashion. For me to send you of all people, is message enough for them" Okranam said

"Then do it, I am going to protect my family and nothing will stop me from doing that and bringing them back in the future" Yorun said

Okranam's facial expression does not change as the three of them change location in the blink of an eye, one of the bits of farmland around Kurinet and right nearby just as he recognised it in the memory, Kurinet as it was before this journey of his began. He can feel a strange presence within the village though, it's familiar and yet not, as if so much was locked away but as Yorun is thinking of that he feels the presence of his wife and his children, the young lives of his children are most noticeable and he knows from the memory this was just a few weeks after Rayne was born. The glow of that time Yorun can practically feel the energy Kurinet yet it's in that energy Yorun realises, the strange presence is his own soul. His younger self, beneath everything going on Yorun can feel the tiny power locked away beneath never having died and never having trained the magic, a version of himself not yet subjected to the future he now lives. A part of Yorun so desperately wants to reach out and go over to tell his younger self everything so his family never dies but he knows he shouldn't but then just as Yorun notices both Okranam and Raeknar have disappeared he senses another person, the chosen he has come to save himself from. Within a second Yorun uses his magic to speed towards the chosen cutting a path through the farmland where he ran until he collides with the chosen, scythe to flaming sickles with long chains attached while the sound cascading out far enough for the citizens of Kurinet to hear.

"Raeknars chosen? Already here?" The Chosen of Heltior said but was quickly batted away by Yorun

"STAY AWAY FROM MY FAMILY" Yorun shouted

Yoruns words are filled with a special rage he has not felt since his family within the timeline he remembers died yet it's not wholly similar as he can save them here, in the moment of this clash his entire body covers itself in black flames as the grass around him dies. The chosen of Heltior smirked as his body glowed with light, more than the flames his body naturally gives off but pure blinding light with the ground around being scorched even before abruptly engulfing in blue flames.

"It's just you here isn't it? No extra souls, no undead just you" The Chosen said as their body beneath all the blinding light go from natural orange flames to blue as well

Yorun hadn't even clocked it till that moment but he can feel it, the souls usually attached to him are gone including Golanier, it's just him with his own magic and what's been granted as a chosen. The chosen can see the look upon Yoruns face.

"Just dawning on you isn't it? More even than you thought" The chosen of Heltior said

Both Yorun and the chosen say nothing else as the chosen's chain sickles heat enough for them to be turning red across all pieces of metal before swinging them around in circles as a veritable fire tornado quickly forms. Yorun uses his magic to fly up and back from the incoming fire tornado yet just as he does he quickly dodges one of the sickles coming out of the tornado before being pulled back into it. Yorun can't see the chosen intermingled with all the fire so he thinks of how to rid himself of the tornado, dissipating it with his own flames would be ideal but he knows this being is far more in tune and powerful with fire than he could ever be, thankfully though Yorun knows these lands. As the sickles coming flying out of the fiery tornado driven in their direction by the chains their attached too to mess with Yorun as they try to hook, stab or at least clip him Yorun moves back baiting the chosen into following him though even as he makes the chosen follow him Yorun starts remembering what his other self is now seeing of this day, the people of Kurinet seeing a bright blue fiery tornado relatively close to the village, he knows it's concerning the village and they have never seen such a thing so Yorun knows he needs to finish this quickly before any of them try to see if something magical is happening or if it's a bit of weird weather sent by the gods. Yorun continues to dodge the attacks of the chosen before getting near a river and then smirks glad to have finally gotten to it as he uses water magic to direct the water of the flowing river through the air and straight at the chosen. A violent explosion of steam quickly cascades out from the water hitting the superheated fire and flaming chosen beneath, Yorun watches as he hears the chosen scream before the fire tornado dissipates and the water is forced away from the chosen whose flaming body is now still bright as before but he himself has shrunk due to the flames dying down from the water.

"You made a mistake coming for my family, I will fight tooth and nail to save them just as I have been doing since this all began! More than that I know these lands! I may be alone but I am at an advantage!" Yorun shouted

"You know these lands? Tch so what!? You know the rivers and the like? You'll need more than that to get rid of me" The chosen said with arrogance dripping from his voice

The ground then started to rumble and Heltiors chosen looks around before several giant skeletal hands burst out of the ground and start grabbing at him or attacking him yet the chosen is undeterred as within moments the chains are are swinging once again almost as if this were an elaborate practiced dance as the chains effortlessly wrap around the chosen and spring forth towards the hands and wrap around them burning through the bones of the hands as if it were a knife through butter. The chosen does it again and again taking the hands apart while springing the weapons towards Yorun, missing before abruptly bending the chain with his hand by sharply pressing into the chain which wraps it around Yorun, this would be beyond painful had the armour he was wearing not be mostly protecting him yet even with it it's beginning to get hot.

"Was that your advantage? Hands so easily destroyed? You really are from this backwater if you so truly thought that'd be your aid" The chosen said amusedly

"No, the advantage is your arrogance!" Yorun shouted

As the words left his mouth the very armour he wears expanded outward forcing the chains loose before he quickly grabbed onto the searing hot chains with his draconic hand and quickly made the scythe appear in his other to cut through the chains cutting the sickles away from the ends before quickly pulling on the chains and forcing the chosen closer, Yorun tries to touch the chosen to end it immediately but their body dissipates and reforms behind Yorun kicking him away, he quickly tries to grab the armour but it's pieces fly back to Yorun and form properly back into the armour.

"Your weapons are ruined, just chains now, you can try and grab the sickles but take that much time and I gut you" Yorun said

"Now whose the arrogant one? So assured of your victory from just this" The chosen said before the chains were reeled back and cracked like whips with the sound alone like a handheld explosion as the chain crashed hard into his body with lightning speed

Yorun reels back from the sheer force and the chosen rolls forward releasing the chains and quickly grabbing the sickles before speeding forward to attack wildly with the red hot and ablaze sickles, Yorun quickly blocked the attacks or dodged as best he could but his movements were slowing even with the resistant nature of his armour his body is overheating, his mind and body itself slowing and putting him in danger.

"That's it, slower and slower, soon you'll just lie down and die then I'll have the pleasure of watching you die twice" The chosen said

Yoruns vision begins to blur as nausea hit him and he began to kneel, the chosen smirks and speeds forward ready to strike but within a moment divinity spreads around them before the ground bursts open as demons come out of a portal beneath the ground and quickly attack the chosen who is forced back by the small army of demons while one in particular claws his own way out of the ground and grabs Yorun using ice magic to cool him down.

"Wakey wakey little chosen, there's fun to be had" The familiar demon said as Yoruns eyes focus once more so that he can recognise him

"Celantriak?" Yorun asked as he puts his hand to his own face fighting the exhaustion

"Not entirely" Celantriak said with another familiar voice overlaying on top of the demons voice as the feeling of divinity explodes out from Celantriak shocking Yorun and the nearby chosen

"Malekanivor..." Yorun said causing the god before him to laugh through Celantriaks body

"Let's go have some fun" Celantriak said as they turned to look at the chosen

Yorun stood once more and the rage of the nearby chosen as well as the god their serve practically filled the area as the sun above blazed anew in such a fashion all looked to it as the will to fight between them all renewed, all the while peaceful Kurinet's citizens could not tell whether everything going on was truly surrounding just them or if something upset the gods and the whole realm was going to pay for it...
