TBE Chapter 50

  Ezekiel and his two brothers spent so much time practicing the crossbow and playing in the clearing they were staying in that he didn’t notice the passing of the time and when he checked it, it was already four in the afternoon.

  He decided that they would just stay in that clearing for their night camp since they were not truly on a schedule. It was true that Ezekiel would have wanted to be very far away from Eagle Village but it was not that truly frantic. The need to be far away was just a combination of wanting to start their lives again somewhere where nobody knew their history and the paranoia that was brought on by the thought that Mr. Duvon and the people that he told about the Healing Elixir would chase them.

  After they had fun with the crossbows, Ezekiel stored the two smaller crossbows since he didn’t want the kids to get into any accident. He kept the bigger one on display in their cart since the main function of the device was a deterrent but he made sure to place it where he could reach it easier.

  Ezekiel then cast the Galder’s Tower spell four times and led Prince Charming and their cart inside one of the towers that functioned as the donkey’s stable. He fed and watered their donkey then they went to the dining room to eat an early dinner. More than likely they would have some snacks later tonight but it wasn’t a problem for them and after that, they spent the rest of the evening playing.

  It was still early so he tasked Yuki Onna to fly around to check the surrounding area and soon, he was informed that there was a deer and a boar nearby. Ezekiel would have preferred to hunt aggressive animals so he could earn experience points even though it was going to be miniscule but then again, he needed to learn how to butcher animals so he decided to kill the deer as well.

  Since Ezekiel also decided that he would mingle with the villagers and towns that they would pass through on the way to the country of Delantan, he could also earn coins selling meat to the villagers or townspeople.

  “Robert, Luke, I’ll need to go out for a few minutes. There’s a boar and a deer nearby. I would like to kill them so I can continue learning how to butcher animals. Don’t leave the house okay?” Ezekiel told his brothers.

  “Can’t we come with you?” Robert asked.

  “It will probably take me less than ten minutes. Do you still want to come?”

  When the two boys that it would take him a very short time, they lost interest and continued playing with the wooden blocks awakened by the Tiny Servant spell.

  Ezekiel thought that the kids should be fairly safe since they were inside the Galder’s Tower and that spells were protecting the entrances of the houses. Not only that, he should be able to return almost immediately since the boar and the deer were nearby.

  When exited the house, Ezekiel cast the Fly spell and flew towards where the boar was located. He was being guided by Yuki Onna, his snowy owl familiar, so he found the boar soon after. He landed and threw a stick at the boar to get its attention and when the boar saw him, the animal rushed toward him.

  Ezekiel cast a single Magic Missile slotted at the cantrip slot and that single spell alone exploded the boar’s head. He knew that the only reason why it was very easy to kill the boar was it was a regular animal so he shouldn’t be too confident about the spell’s power. He stored the boar’s corpse in his 4th space tab and checked his experience points.

  He saw that his experience points increased to 3 percent till he reached level 4 and he was still satisfied at earning a single point of experience from one boar.

  Ezekiel knew that his spell was overpowered against normal animals and possibly normal people as well so he decided to search for non-fatal spells that he could use against human enemies. He didn’t want to kill humans willy-nilly since he didn’t want to become a butcher psychopath.

  He flew towards where the deer was located according to Yuki Onna and when he found it, killed it immediately using a single Magic Missile spell. After he stored the deer corpse in his 4th tab space, he flew back to where the Galder’s Tower was located.

  It wasn’t even ten minutes when he was back already and the boys were still playing.

  “Hi guys, I’ve returned!”

  “You’re back already?!” Robert exclaimed.

  “Since it’s still early, I’ll be busy in the kitchen butchering the boar and deer corpses. It will probably take me a while so I’ll leave your dinner here. You can eat once it’s dark outside, okay?” After the boys said that they would, Ezekiel placed a few lunchboxes, a bottle of mineral water, and a couple of glasses on the small bedroom table.

  Ezekiel then commanded Yuki Onna to inform him if someone or something neared their campsite and if the boys went outside the bedroom house. Then he went to the dining room to begin his project of learning about butchering animals. He suddenly thought that since he did have time every evening, he would continue learning about woodworking starting the next day whenever they camped for the night.

  He did still have a lot of smoothen wood in the cart and the forest could provide him all the wood that he would need. So he planned to continue learning the book from Mr. Duvon and during evenings, he would continue learning to craft wooden arts and small furniture. He still wanted to use that profession to earn coins legitimately supplemented by some rare items from his system shopping store.

  Ezekiel needed a way to earn coins without gambling with his life since he had two lives depending on him.

  He followed the video guides on how to butcher animals from the famous streaming website again and after four hours, he completed butchering the deer and the boar corpses. He stored the meat and the boar’s offal in his 4th tab space since some recipes called for them and there was a chance that people would purchase them. He also saved the deer skin even though the skin wasn’t perfectly skinned since they would not rot in his 4th tab space anyway.

  After he cleaned the kitchen, Ezekiel visited Prince Charming at his table and fed and watered the donkey again. He also cleaned Prince Charming and the stable using his Prestidigitation spell after that he went to the washroom to take a shower. He also didn’t forget to clean his clothes.

  When he joined Robert and Luke in the bedroom house, the two kids were coloring their coloring books using their crayons and Ezekiel saw that the Tiny Servant spell on the wooden blocks lapsed. He cast the spell again to wake up the wooden blocks but even though the kids saw the wooden blocks revived. Ezekiel also noticed that the kids ate all the food that he prepared and the plastic lunch boxes were haphazardly put on the floor near the door. He ate dinner briefly and when he asked the kids if they wanted to eat something, they requested some of Luke’s remaining birthday cake.

  After eating, he cleaned the plastic boxes, stored them in his 4th tab space then told the kids to prepare to sleep. While he was tucking them in, Ezekiel told his brothers that starting the next day, if they encountered a village or a town, they would stop by and sell some of the meat that he butchered and some of the wooden arts and furniture that they had.

  “Can we play with the other kids from the villages and towns?” Robert asked.

  “Yes, and this time I’m sure that the children there will not be mean to you since they don’t know us. You may have to share your toys with them but we still can’t tell them about my magic, okay?”

  Both boys nodded when they heard Ezekiel's warnings about not telling anyone about his magic. They did look excited when they learned that they could play with other kids and he knew that his decision to mingle with other people was right. He was sad to see the kids lonely for the company of other children their age and he blamed the villagers from the Eagle Village again for giving their family a hard time.

  Robert and Luke requested for him to tell them a new bedtime story so he told them a generic one about friendship by reading it from the internet and was sad to see Robert crying. When Luke saw his older brother crying, the young boy cried as well and what wrenched Ezekiel’s heart was the silent crying that the boys were making. He hated the Eagle Village for not allowing their family to mingle with the other children and he was praying that the place that they would stumble into would welcome them then they could begin healing their hearts by forgetting all about Eagle Village.

  Ezekiel decided to continue reading the story and emphasized the happy adventures that the characters in the story were having and soon both kids were laughing, their tears forgotten and a few minutes later, both kids were asleep. He spent the rest of the evening reviewing his system tabs and the spells that he wanted to purchase that were not lethal to ordinary people and soon he was also asleep.
