Chapter 30 - Chimeratech

  Chapter 30 - Chimeratech

Lucas stretched his arm outward, palm open. His voice echoed through the lobby. “This is how a Mechanic fights!”

Countless turrets built atop the wall began to hum, their barrels swiveling to aim at the flying monstrosity.

Slicing his arm down, he yelled, “Fire!”

At his command, flashes of crimson light erupted from the turrets' barrels, slicing through the air in searing beams that blasted into the airborne monster.

Despite the lasers leaving only faint scorch marks on the monster, they were enough to make it recoil, cutting off its stream of fire.

It snarled in frustration, but the relentless onslaught of laser beams forced it to retreat, shielding itself from further damage.

“This is just the appetizer,” Lucas smirked as streaks of blue energy erupted from his body, linking to each turret atop the wall.

  “Oversurge Protocol.”

All of a sudden, the turrets vibrated with a deafening hum as blue lights pulsed along their frames.

“Now, time for the main course,” Lucas smirked as the turrets began firing once more.

This time, the lasers burned brighter and thicker, cutting through the air with intense precision. Alongside the beams, a rapid series of metallic clinks echoed, signaling the release of high-speed projectiles.

Endless lasers and piercing bullets alternated, tearing through the air.

The flying beast roared in defiance, faltering under the relentless barrage. Each laser left a charred mark on its body, while the high-speed bullets tore through its flesh and punctured its metallic frame.

Frustrated, the beast dove down, smashing its metallic tail against the ground to create a massive dust cloud to block Lucas's vision.

Snorting, Lucas sneered, “This isn’t going to change anything.”

He willed all the turrets to focus fire on the spot where the beast had landed.

Amidst the swirling dust cloud, the beast howled in agony, struggling to shield itself with its metallic wings.

But the relentless assault was too much. The lasers melted and caved in its wings, while the bullets shredded its flesh and tore through its joints.

Occasionally, explosions erupted, ripping chunks of flesh and metal from its body.

The beast's roars grew weaker as its massive body trembled under the relentless barrage.

Blood and molten metal dripped onto the ground, hissing as they formed a grotesque mix of steam and smoke.

Collapsing to one knee, the beast thrashed its scorpion tail wildly, its desperation mounting as it tried to deflect incoming attacks.

Meanwhile, the second beast shielded itself behind a giant pillar. Its wolf head let out a low growl, while its lizard head began charging energy, a faint glow building in its throat.

Noticing this, Chloe shouted, “Lucas, the other one’s making a move!”

“My turn! Hah!” Manuel bellowed, launching itself from the wall with its shield raised high, diving directly at the beast's lizard head.

“We’ll handle the other one. Focus on this one!” Samantha said, gripping her spear as she leaped after Manuel. Similarly, Chloe followed suit.

Manuel's shield bashed into the beast's lizard head, causing it to recoil as the energy concentrated in its throat dispersed.

“Here's one for you!” Manuel laughed, leaping away from the lizard's head.

Upon landing next to Manuel, Samantha thrust her red, rune-filled spear into the beast's exposed neck.

pierced deep, leaving a gaping wound. The wolf’s head howled and snapped its jaws toward Samantha.

She dodged just in time, rolling to the side as the maw bit through the air where she had been moments before.

But the beast's metal tail whipped forward, slashing toward her. Unable to regain her footing, Samantha clenched her jaw and aimed her arm at the incoming tail.

“Aibarkyra,” she muttered. Instantly, numerous purplish chains erupted from the ground, racing toward the tail. However, the wolf’s head howled again, unleashing an invisible burst of energy that shattered the chains into pieces.

“Shit.” Samantha cursed under her breath as she hurriedly raised her spear to defend herself.

Before the anticipated impact could crash down on her, a gunshot rang out. The tail's trajectory shifted ever so slightly, embedding itself into the ground next to her.

Looking at the spot where the tail had pierced, Samantha noticed the ground hissing like a snake as smoke rose from it. A shiver ran down her spine as she wondered whether the potions she had been stockpiling would be of any use.

She glanced toward the top of the wall and nodded at Jager, whose rifle barrel was aimed at her location.

From out of nowhere, Chloe dashed forward, her sword coiled with purple and blue energy. Lunging with her arm, tore into the base of the beast’s tail, the area where Manuel had deduced the energy source to be located.

As she pushed her sword deeper, she felt the subtle sensation of piercing something crystal-like. Smirking, she whipped her sword upward, ripping through flesh and steel alike.

With the crystal destroyed, the beast’s tail drooped down as if disconnected from the socket. The beast roared in agony and anger, flapping its mechanical wings desperately. But before it could gain any altitude, a barrage of laser beams and bullets rained down, forcing it back to the ground.

Seizing the beast’s distracted moment, Manuel charged with his hammer raised, swinging it across the lizard’s head, smashing its lower jaw out of place.

The beast growled in fury, its eyes darting between the human standing atop the wall and the group in front of it. Bending its knees, it suddenly propelled itself backward, using its wings to pull away from the group. A faint glow began building in its throat as it prepared to unleash another breath.

“Lizard’s breathing fire again! Jager!” Manuel shouted as he raised his shield and charged toward the beast.

Before the creature could release another fiery stream, a single bullet tore through the air, plunging into its throat where the energy had been gathering. The beast hissed loudly, smoke pouring from its mouth as its attack fizzled out.

Seeing this, Manuel cackled. “Good one, brother!” It propelled himself with a leap, bashing his shield into the lizard’s head, and smashing his hammer into the wolf’s head. “Boss Ladies!”

“I can hear you just fine!” Samantha growled as she flanked the beast, driving into the wolf’s head.

Behind her, Chloe stepped onto Manuel’s body, propelling herself upward and plunging her sword deep into the lizard’s head.

Desperate, the beast lashed out with its wings, forming a shield of motion around it to defend against the threatening attacks.

The wing hit Chloe. Hard. Her breath caught. Pain shot through her body as she spiraled out of control, crashing into the wall. “That was rough,” she grumbled while her muscles burned as she fought to stand up. “A single blow from it is enough to make me like this.”

Meanwhile, Samantha was able to dodge the wing out of luck, but the blades of wind still cut through her flesh, leaving numerous injuries.

  Fortunately, , , and

special effects from their suit were able to absorb most of the damage. Otherwise, they might suffer more than just a few bruises and cuts.

“Boss Ladies!” Manuel roared. “I, Manuel, will not forgive you! Foul beast!” Numerous motors within its frame began humming more intensely than ever as its red lenses shone menacingly.

Pushing the beast stumbling backward, Manuel’s motors whirred. Its hammer whistled through the air, crashing down in a heartbeat into the lizard’s head, caving it in and leaving a crater in the ground. The lizard’s eyes instantly lost their luster.

Manuel’s red eye shone brightly as it glared at the wolf’s head. “Dragon slayed. Now, wolf,” it muttered mechanically. Twisting its body, it gripped the handle tight as it whipped the hammer straight into the wolf’s head.

Just as the beast was about to move its body, a blast of energy assaulted its mind, momentarily stunning it.

However, before it could recover, a heavy metal hammer slammed straight into its wolf head, splitting the head from the body.

At that very moment, the air felt still. The headless beast staggered a bit before falling with its wolf head crushing into a heap of scrap.

“Holy…” Samantha mumbled as she watched Manuel executing the beast.

Chloe heaved a breath when the beast finally fell. She shifted her gaze to the other beast. It had already turned into a charred barbecue of meat and metal. Groaning at the pain aching her body, she vented her agony by yelling, “Lucas! I want a new and shinier armor!”

“Drink your potion first!” Lucas shouted from atop the wall when he heard Chloe calling out to him.

Seeing his party members were fine, Lucas smiled. ‘They hold themselves up well. Maybe I should make them proper equipment, and the horse.’

‘Still, controlling these many turrets is brain-wrecking,’ he mentally sighed as he massaged the bridge of his nose while downing a Stamina Potion.

Before Lucas could check either his Class Advancement or rewards, the System had already prepared to kick them out of the dungeon.

He hurriedly shouted at the others, “Outside! The other group!” before his vision shifted.

  ***

Regaining his vision, Lucas found himself and the others standing outside the entrance of Hexxen Tower. Before he could do anything, countless people began shouting and surrounding them with weapons in their arms.

A man with a giant sword strapped approached them. From Lucas’s eyes, the man was probably a head taller than him, and he, himself, was considered decently tall. But the man’s first words were rather radical.

  “Catch them!” the man roared.

At his command, the surrounding people came flooding at Lucas and the gang. Giving them a slight glance, Lucas released a wave of mental energy, freezing everyone on the spot. He crossed his arms, giving the man before him a sneering gaze.

He forcefully pried the weapons out of everyone’s hands and made them kneel on the ground. Staring at the kneeling men, Lucas could see all of their pupils trembling hard.

“Aren’t you going to give them a chance to talk?” Samantha called out while gazing at the group in front of her. “Technically, we did steal from them.”

“Technically, we saved them. And I am pissed off right now!” Lucas growled, putting more pressure on the other group.

Everyone kneeling felt an invisible force pressing against their backs, forcing them to kowtow. Their eyes trembled, constricted with fear.

Chloe immediately patted his head and asked gently, “Calm down, my boy. Why are you mad? Which of them pissed you off? Tell mommy, and mommy will beat them up!”

Lucas sighed, releasing the pressure on the poor sobs. “Nah, it’s just those scraps didn’t come out with us. I’m just annoyed by it.”

“Aww, does my boy want to go back and chill for a little bit? We’ll keep an eye on them. After you’re cooled off, you can come out. Mommy will prepare some food for you,” Chloe smiled, kissing Lucas on the cheek.

“I’m fine, Chloe,” Lucas chuckled, hugging her. “I’m not that angry just because of some metal.”

“Hey, hey, hey!” Samantha snapped her fingers. “Control yourselves. Either go back or find a tent. PDA is a crime and you need to a two-thousand-dollar fine.”

Chloe stuck her tongue out at Samantha before looking at Lucas. “Go ahead. If they make any trouble, I’ll break their kneecaps!” She slammed her fist into her palm, sending a shiver down the others.

“Alright then. Jager, Manuel, both of you stay here and listen to the girls.” Lucas instructed before heading back inside the building.

The automatons' lenses flickered before Jager nodded, and Manuel assured, “Leave it to me, Boss Man!”

When the group saw two giant robots walking and staring at them, they couldn’t resist shivering out of fear, even the giant man with the sword on his back.
