Chapter 2: hospital visit

  Chapter 2: hospital visit

Didier sat in the hospital bed. Rain pounded on the windows as he stared through at the glass. A doctor put down their clipboard on a desk and opened a door to exit the room.

“Nothing looks wrong so I'll be stepping out for a moment. There's a woman outside that wants to talk to talk to you.”

As the doctor exited Jayce entered. She slowly walked over to Didier's bed as he was still looking at the window. Seeing a bit of his reflection in it.

Didier: I just don't understand. If I was on fire, how would I look completely fine? I don't even have a single scar or injury.

While he looked he smiled a bit. Relieved that nothing is wrong. Even if he doesn't know exactly why.

Jayce sat at the edge of the hospital bed next to Didier's feet. The light sheet underneath him was lightly tugged by her weight. She turned a little to look at him

Jayce: Well… we used an unconventional method.

Didier: And what was this “unconventional method"?

Jayce: … We gave you a special type of pill. It was specifically made to help people battle corrupted.

  Didier: What do you mean?

Jayce: It's a pill all corruption exterminators eat. It boosts endurance, strength and lucky for you a healing factor. It also gives you unique abilities.

  Didier: Wait, what?

Didier looks down at his hands in awe.

Didier: So I have super powers or something?

He showed off a grin of excitement.

Didier: I guess I deserve a silver lining after everything that happened yesterday. Right?

Jayce fakes a cough and her eyes wander away from Didier.

  Jayce: Not quite…

  Didier: What was that?

Jayce: Uhm. Not quite. It's actually illegal for you to use these powers while not being a corruption exterminator.

Didier's smile faded off his face as disappointment Overtook him.

Didier: Oh… well at least there is no downside to this.

Jayce: You're really making me regret being the one to have to tell you all this.

Didier: What's that supposed to mean?

Jayce: In order to remove the effects of the pill from the body you can't use any of the abilities. The strength, the endurance or the regeneration. Using them will force you to wait another week.

Didier: Alright. That sounds pretty easy.

Jayce: When I say this I mean you're not allowed to do even basic things. Getting even a paper cut will reset the timer and you will have to wait again. Standing up for more than just 30 seconds can also reset the timer. Along with many other things. The list is long.

  Didier: Wait…

Didier was silenced for a few seconds. Trying to comprehend what he had heard.

Didier: What are you talking about right now?

Jayce goes on with what she was saying.

Jayce: So to make sure you don't break any rules you will be under surveillance by a bodyguard all day in your house. You will also be effectively place under house arrest and you will be unable leave a wheelchair we will give to you to make sure you don't-

Didier swiftly cuts her off. Making sure she doesn't get another word in.

Didier: Seriously, what are you talking about right now!? You're not making sense!

Didier begins to trip over his words.

Didier: What does this even… Do you know how stupid you sound!? What will I do when I'm unemployed for an entire week!? I already have no job! Even after the week is up i'll have to go and look for one after! I don't have anything saved!

Jayce: I don't make these decisions. I'm 99% sure that everything is final. Nothing is changing no matter how hard you try.

Didier: I want to talk to someone! I want to talk to the police! Or a lawyer! Or…

He pauses. Looking down at the bed not saying anything before leaning back in his bed and resting his head on his pillow. Staring at the ceiling.

Didier: Just anybody… anybody that can help me.

Jayce turns around. With everyone quiet the sound of rain droplets banging against the window outside is audible again.

Jayce: You can leave anytime you want too now. Your bodyguard is waiting outside with a wheelchair.

  Didier closes his eyes.

Didier: Ill leave when it stops raining

Jayce exits the room and closes the door behind her.

  Didier: I'm so screwed…
