Seeing the isnd, Smoker was filled with excitement.
"A whole month! Do you know what I’ve been through this past month?!"
"Stu this moldy ship, I’m about to go rotten!"
Though Hina was there with him, it didn’t help much. The su down from above while the seawater steamed below, leaving them sticky and miserable, with not a sihought left in their heads.
Smoker quickly ran to the side of the ship, reag down to feel the current.
“Not bad, we’re getting closer to the isnd…”
Hina was equally excited. “Great! Just a little more, and we’ll be able to use Moonwalk to get to the isnd!”
A few hours ter, the ship slowly drifted closer to the isnd. The full view of it unfolded before them—mountains, green trees, and flocks of seagulls cirg above.
Smoker and Hina's eyes lit up.
Good, it wasn’t just some barren rock.
When they were close enough, they both used Moonwalk to leap onto the isnd. As their feet hit the ground, they finally felt like they had narrowly escaped death.
You couldn’t bme them, really.
Two Devil Fruit users stu a broken ship—one good storm or wave and they’d be fish food.
In such a situation, unless you were someone like Aokiji, who didn’t fear falling into the water, or Shiki, who could fly, any Devil Fruit user would be anxious.
For a whole month, they had felt like a sword was hanging over their heads, never sleeping with both eyes closed.
Now, standing on solid ground, Smoker immediately used his powers to pull the ship ashore.
They couldn’t just let the boat drift away—there were still supplies on board!
Afterward, they found a safe cave and colpsed into a deep sleep, pletely exhausted. Who knows how long they slept before finally waking up.
Ohey were fully awake, they finally started thinking about what to do .
Hina asked, “Smoker, what should we do now?”
Smoker shook his head. “Not much we do. We don’t know where we are, so we’ll just have to wait and hope a ship es by to rescue us.”
Hina sighed, “Alright... in any case, let’s explore the isnd first.”
Smoker had no objes.
The two of them scouted the isnd, quickly c its area.
They were in luck—the isnd had fresh water, fruit, and animals. At least they wouldn’t die of thirst or hunger.
The only downside was that this pce didn’t seem to be on any major route.
Without being on a proper sea ne, no mert ships or passenger vessels would e by, and without those, there would be no pirate ships. And without pirate ships, no Mariher...
The two exged gnces, both a little disheartened.
But Smoker, with his usual resilience, waved his hand dismissively.
“Fet about it, o be upset... this isn’t the Calm Belt, after all. Eventually, a ship will pass by!”
“There’s food and water here, so we might as well wait it out.”
Hina knew he was trying to cheer her up, so she sighed quietly and nodded.
And so, their life of survival on the isnd began.
To make their stay more fortable, Smoker dismahe pirate ship and built a small wooden hut on the beach.
Though simple, it provided shelter from the wind and rain. Plus, the open view made it easy to spot any passing ships.
Notig the isnd was quite damp, Smoker also dug a small underground ste pit among the rocks away from the shore to store food.
Days passed in this monotonous but practical routine.
They searched for supplies by day, and at night, traiogether, getting stronger.
Before they k, two months had gone by.
One day, the sound of “thud thud” echoed in the sky above the isnd, followed by bursts of white smoke.
Hina, who had been training in mid-air, ractig bining her Smoke-Smoke Fruit powers with Moonwalk.
By using the propulsion of smoke, her flight speed had greatly increased, and it was far less tiring now.
While she couldn’t yet cross vast os, flying around the isnd multiple times was no longer an issue.
Not only that, but after months of practice, her trol over the Smoke-Smoke Fruit had reached a whole new level.
Upon seeing the isnd, Smoker couldn't tain his excitement.
"A whole month! Do you even know how I've survived this past month?!"
Stu a moldy ship, with the stench of everything going bad around him, Smoker felt like he was rotting away too.
Sure, Hina had beeo keep him pany, but every day they were scorched by the sun from above, while the seawater steamed from below, making everything sticky and foul. There wasn’t a sira thought he could muster.
Smoker quickly moved to the edge of the ship, reag out to feel the o current.
"Not bad. We're drifting closer to the isnd..."
Hina was just as excited. "Finally! Just a little closer, and we use Moonwalk to get ashore!"
A few hours ter, their ship sluggishly drifted he isnd, and the full view unfolded before them.
There were mountains and lush trees, with seagulls and other birds flying overhead. Both of their eyes lit up in delight.
Good, it wasn’t one of those barren isnds with only rocks.
Ohey got close enough, the two used Moonwalk to leap ashore, finally pnting their feet on solid ground.
It felt like esg death. Who could bme them?
Two Devil Fruit users stu a broken ship, always at the mercy of the sea—oorm or a rge wave could’ve easily sent them to a watery grave.
Unless you were someone like Aokiji, who had no fear of the water, or Shiki, who could fly, any Devil Fruit user would have their doubts in a situation like that.
For aire month, the two of them had lived with a stant sense of danger hanging over their heads, always feeling like there was a sword about to drop. They even had to sleep with one eye open.
Ohey reached the isnd, Smoker used his powers to draw the ship onto the shore. They couldn't just let it drift away—there were still supplies onboard.
They found a safe cave, colpsed inside, and slept like the dead.
It wasn’t clear how much time had passed before they finally woke up, but ohey did, they could finally start thinking about what to do .
Hina asked, “Smoker, what should we do now?”
Smoker shook his head. “There’s not much we do. We don’t know our exact location, so we’ll just have to wait for a ship to pass by and rescue us.”
Hina sighed, “I guess you’re right... But first, let’s explore this isnd.”
Smoker had no objes.
They started expl the isnd and soon circled the whole thing. They were lucky—there was fresh water, fruits, and animals, so at least they wouldn’t starve or die of thirst.
The only downside was that the isnd didn’t seem to be on any major routes.
Without it being a regur route, mert ships and cruise ships wouldn’t pass by. No pirate ships meant no Marine warships, either.
The two exged gnces.
In the end, Smoker, who had the better attitude, waved his hand dismissively.
“Fet it. Don’t get too down... This isn’t the Calm Belt, so eventually, a ship will pass by.”
“Besides, there’s food, water, and fresh air. We might as well wait it out here,” he added.
Hina knew he was trying to cheer her up. She sighed but nodded in agreement.
And so, the two of them began their survival on the isnd.
To make things more fortable, Smoker dismantled parts of the pirate ship and built a small on the beach.
It was simple, but at least it kept the wind and rain out. Plus, the open view made it easy to spot any ships passing by.
Given ho the isnd was, Smoker also dug a pit in the rocky area further innd to store food.
Days passed in this routine—searg for supplies by day, training by night.
In no time, two months had passed.
One day, strahudding sounds echoed in the air above the isnd, followed by bursts of white smoke.
Hina was flying high, bining her Logia powers with Moonwalk.
By using smoke propulsion, she had not only increased her flying speed several times over, but she also served more energy.
Though she couldn’t fly between isnds, she could easily circle the ohey were on several times.
After two months of interaining, Hina had gained impressive mastery over the Smoke-Smoke Fruit, much more than Smoker had in the inal timeline.
She didn’t rely solely on intangibility. Instead, she used the smoke to increase her speed and power. Her teiques might not have been as fshy, but the results were solid. And as her physical strength improved, she would only grow stronger.
At the same time, Smoker stood before a rge boulder, raising his right hand slowly.
He was focused, extending his palm as a thin, dark energy snaked out like a whip.
With a sharp crack, the darkness shed out at the boulder, passing through it. The rock split ly, as if the stone had vanished into thin air.
Smrinned.
“It worked!”
“This move... I'll call it Bck Whip!”
It was a eique Smoker had developed. He’d realized that the power of the Dark-Dark Fruit mainly involved trol—pulling eoward him for close bat.
The darkness he released was chaotid hard to manipute. Evero attack, Bck Hole, was just a huge area of destru, relying on brute force to crush enemies caught within.
It was effective, but rigid.
So Sman experimenting with shaping the darkness.
As expected, the teique became more flexible, and its power increased.
The abilities of a Devil Fruit weren’t set in stone. A lot depended on the user's creativity.
For Bckbeard, darkness meant endless gravity, and his attacks focused on swallowing everything whole. This mi limited him.
His gravitational pull always inated from his own body, which meant he couldn’t avoid attacks and couldn’t create a distant source of gravity.
But Smoker didn’t have that restri.
Who said the source of gravity had to be the user?
Who said you couldn’t create a remote gravity field?
Who said there had to be only one source?
There were no limits, only imagination.
At that moment, Hina flew over and nded o Smoker.
“So this is the eique you’ve been w on? It’s incredible!” she said, impressed.
Smoker ed an arm around her waist.
“This is just the beginning... There's much more to e.”
The two returo their , where Tashigi had already grilled several fish. They sat down to eat.
Smoker wolfed down four or five fish, wiped his mouth, and asked, “Still no sign of any ships?”
Hina shook her head. “I’ve flown around the isnd several times, but no ships in sight.”
“Alright...” Smoker replied, not sounding too disappointed. “No worries, we’ll get our ce eventually.”
Over the past two months, their retionship had deepened signifitly.
Living together in isotion, day and night, with no one else around, they’d found plenty of ways to stay occupied.
If a ship came, great. If not, they weren’t in any rush to leave.
“After all, we’ve got food, water, and each other. What’s a few more days?” Smoker added with a grin.
“Tch…” Hina rolled her eyes, though there was a hint of pyfulness in her expression, whily made Smoker’s heart race.
Just as he was sidering taking things further, a distant sound interrupted them.
"Boom! Boom!"
It was a deep, muffled noise, almost like thunder, but different somehow.
Smoker paused. “What was that sound?!”
Hina frowned. “It sounds familiar...”
Suddenly, two more booming sounds followed, and onballs rained down.
Their was instantly blown to pieces, engulfed in a fiery explosion.
In the distance, a Marine warship had e to a halt.
Smoke trailed from its ons, which still glowed from the ret bst.
