Chapter 83: I Must Do My Job!
I was… that is, my payment was given to me at the start, even before I did a single word of narration. Runey even got paid, as well.
Runey: “Mom, have you also realized what happened? Good, good. Now, can you please just hurry up with it? This new timeline is without a doubt… the greatest one, a true work of art!” She urged at my bedside.
Vulely: “…” “If you left me alone… I could do my damn job, cheeky daughter!!!” I rage in my thoughts.
Long story short, since I was already paid… I did the bare minimum amount of work per day. I assumed that this was just a fun project that my wife gave me. Unfortunately… due to my laziness, Celia has been trapped in her room for this long.
To you, the readers, or listeners… no time at all has passed. But, make no mistake, I took so many breaks, and have been living like an utter slob.
Vulely: “Do you blame Celia?” I ask with a curious tone.
Runey: “Hm? Why would I?” She replied with a head tilt.
Vulely: “(~OAO)”
Why… Runey, later in life, had become very strict. Surely… Runey is secretly holding back some blame that should be directed towards our Celia, right?
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Runey: “That Celia is already gone, Vulely. And you… the longer the narration goes on, the weaker that her protection gets. I still remember that timeline fully, you see.” She said with a solemn expression.
Vulely: “I… yeah, you’re correct. I feel that my knowledge that time is… slipping away.” I admit with great vexation.
Runey: “Nemu died protecting me, and I was left with unhealable injuries. Both physical and mental. You don’t recall this, Mom.” She continued, a smile on her face, seeming to have no hatred for Celia.
That war… although none of the core family members died during it, the war left a few friends dead, while many were injured, including Celia. Who was that we fought against?… Ah! It was those unknown beings!
Runey: “I originally coined them as Mana Suckers in this new timeline, but we never gave them a name in the last one. Can you believe it? Celia didn’t orchestrate this at all… yet, all the way back then… I had significantly culled the main enemies.” She said with a hearty laugh.
Vulely: “…”
Runey: “If only I knew of what they did to us… I’d had given them far worse deaths! Of course, none of that matters now. Home is standing proud, practically no damage to be seen. The war was still hard, but, it was nowhere near as desperate as before.” She continued with glee.
Vulely: “You…” She cut me off here.
Runey: “Stop talking. All of this now has to go in the narration. Like it is a nightmare, our family is trapped in a story… When it is finished, then we can talk, and continue our lives once more.” Her voice was stern, leaving me, despite being her mother, no room to speak.
Vulely: “…”
Runey: “When that time comes… there will be no watchers of us, we will be free. Mom, do me a favor and… convince my past self to go after more of those Mana Suckers. The present keeps changing, so we can eventually get an even better outcome!” She excitedly requested, before she then tapped my head, sending me to sleep.
