The circumstances of his death remained a mystery even to him, as it all happened in just an instant. In the little fragments that remained of his past life, he had just been drifting off to sleep like any other night, and the next, he had awoken... dead. No pain, no memories of a final breath, just a cold, inexplicable transition into somewhere else, and with that came the changes that happened to his body, for it was no longer his own. It had changed and warped into a mutated rat. Though he had expected that this would be the only oddity in his new life, it would turn out to be wrong, as it would not be the only uninvited change he would have to face. The very world he was in was filled with violence and malevolent spirits that stalked the living and the dead alike with equal hunger. Here, every moment was a fight for survival, where even rest came with risk.
