Ch 70: Retaking the Islands

After having dealt with the lovers in the prison of the fortress Yoruns rest is peaceful for a time as his mind focusses on happy memories of his family yet the quest is unending and the peace doesn't last forever as Golanier appears within the room. Yorun wakes then looks towards Golaniers soul and sighs as he gets up.

"What?" Yorun asked with the sleep rolling off his tongue

"Well you let those two live and be free but we do have the future to think about, lets go" Golanier said

"Right, right" Yorun said as he heads towards the war room meanwhile Golanier goes back to his body awaiting in that very same room

Yorun walks the halls on his way there and sees the now free and decently happy couple of Holaire and Oarsteri within the courtyard talking and exploring the fortress. Yorun can tell the two are nervous and he guesses they're wondering if this is some sick game to mess with them but he doubts he can alleviate that fear so for now he leaves them to it as he finally makes his way into the war room where he sees Golanier and Sunhale waiting.

  "Hello Yorun" Sunhale said

"Let's get this out of the way, we've got ships still in good condition and some still being repaired, so we retake the Zeilna Islands and this time we do it fast. Lightning fast so to speak" Yorun said

"You want to use Honaril?" Sunhale asked

"Let me see if I can guess you're thinking Yorun, simply put Honaril and some of his ships can easily get towards the islands without raising alarm and if you've given him your magic he can launch a strong first attack leading to them being in a short panic while the next attack happens" Golanier said

"Correct and simply put, I don't want them being so quick to turn tail to others if we lose that territory again so after that opening volley I'll do as I did at Colstarn and rain down undead from the sky" Yorun said

"Fun" Golanier said with a smirk

"After that we set out some of the ships to patrol the waters around the islands and our territory's mainland, it'll give us some forewarning and good defence while getting the undead better at ship combat" Yorun said

"Swap in some unexperienced ones in that field with experienced ones that way the undead familiar with it get better with their undead existence and those not familiar learn at a faster rate and can take over quicker for the experienced ones" Golanier said

  "Right" Yorun responded

"Meanwhile I'll coordinate with my people, given our recent time allying with each other Monarch Isaile is apparently intrigued about working together more given we're clearly more trustworthy and effective than they'd have thought" Sunhale said somewhat proudly

"Noted, chances are when the time comes for assaulting the capital we'll stand with the elves so it'd be good to have that relationship furthered before then" Yorun said

"I'll set some things up and get you a chance to talk to Monarch Isaile in an official capacity as opposed to the informal visit you had from her previously" Sunhale said

"That'd likely be for the best" Yorun said

"Before Sunhale undoubtedly leaves, Yorun I'm curious what's your plan for the newly freed couple?" Golanier asked drawing Sunhales attention

"I was admittedly curious as well" Sunhale said

"Rather simple actually, chances are the rest of the Pertaki family will be joining Azkelt in his fate but the thing is as annoying as it is they are a massively influential family who've dipped their fingers into anything they can across the empire, we kill them all it'd cause problems in more than a few areas so once we've won the day we have the last remaining of age Pertaki family member who while exiled before can be proudly returned by the Ghohalan who'll take over the empire in Helimiral" Yorun said

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

"That... actually makes sense and given Helimirals current status and honorable ways coinciding with Holaires... humbled personality we could have a good start to the upper classes reformation post end of the war" Sunhale said

"Once again you impress me Yorun" Golanier said

"Well with that explained I'll leave you two to the fighting then, I'll go and grab Gira as she had only come back for now to see about helping you after the fight with Honaril" Sunhale said getting nods from the other two in return before leaving

"Well lets go get the troops ready then, shall we?" Golanier said before teleporting to Kelinrask

Some time passes as a few of what were Honaril's ships get loaded up with the undead Honaril and his similarly undead soldiers, after only a short time Yorun joins them before the ships cast off and start making their way to the Zeilna islands once more. Yorun can feel the speed at which the ships are moving compared to the last time, having given magic to the crews and Honarils undead self even as new undead they seem to have quickly recovered some of their knowledge of the seas and using the magic given to them to alter the oceans currents, waves and finally the wind to be favourable. Some of the less experienced undead Yorun brought to learn are doing what the still burgeoning minds of the sailor undead get them to do allowing them to learn all they can, Yorun almost finds it amusing as he knows if the undead were more lively enough to have emotions such as anger they'd be frustrated from learning from those who can't properly show them yet. As Yorun continues on Golanier and the other undead magics get the rest of the army into Kragrum to await their assault, Golanier loathes being held back yet he still does not want to tempt Nayhram's anger so he acquiesces. The trip to the Zeilna Islands takes no time at all with Honarils undead crew at the helm with just a day passing which Yorun believes could be faster when the undead have their full mental faculties regained, regardless when they are close enough to the islands its inhabitants notice the ships quickly with some new and hastily built watchtowers around the islands being the first to notice. Using magic or telescopes the watchtowers guards see Honaril and his crew they'd seen only days before so they immediately recognise them and are lowering their guard but in a second everything seems to almost slow down for them as they see Honaril begin to pull his hand back, every soldier in those guard towers want to move but they can't do it quick enough as the air practically crackles with electricity as an almost blindingly bright and crackling bolt of lightning gathers in the hand of Honaril, within seconds where some soldiers finally start moving honarils hand now gripping the bolt launches forward with such speed and ferocity a small shockwave radiates from him forcing the ship hes on back a little and knocking Yorun from his feet as he hadn't expected it especially so quickly. The bolt of lightning careens toward the islands crashing into and through every watchtower before going into the sky above the middle of the three islands, clouds gather where the lightning bolt ends its flight and a storm of lightning bolts begin crashing down onto each island from the clouds causing death and destruction around all three islands in a matter of seconds.

"Good job Honaril, my turn" Yorun said as he got up

Yorun pointed the scythe of Raeknar to the sky and upon doing so, just above the clouds raining down the lightning bolts, three portals appeared above each island, Golanier and undead mages quickly sent undead soldiers down arriving as if summoned by the lightning strikes and attacking just as quick in the eyes of the islands inhabitants. All three islands are quickly drenched in blood as every mercenary on the islands are cut down as the ships sail into the ports light ghost ships despite being manned, when Yorun steps off the ship some people see him and immediately surrender hoping for some good will and in hopes that the slaughter will stop, Kavistarn is among them as he rushes to Yorun and kneels.

"I will call upon as many people as possible to surrender just please stop this attack!" Kavistarn pleaded

"Never again allow yourselves to leave our service, you do that and next time we let it continue longer so move quickly Kavistarn and know that I will not allow this to happen again" Yorun said as his new draconic hand creeps out from beneath the cloak

The claws on his new arm pricks Kavistarns rocky and metallic exterior scratching him and carving a line into him. Yorun can imagine the slight pain of that from him however the pain that shoots through Yoruns body from the act is more notable however the adrenaline of the moment numbs it. Kavistarn contacts the other two merchants of importance and they quickly call for the surrender of the mercenaries, Yorun and Honaril quickly rid the islands of the portals and clouds as the streets turn quiet with all the merchants hiding in their homes with the blood of mercenaries running through the streets, Yorun soon enough raises the bodies of all the mercenaries while he acknowledges inside himself the slight cruel nature of this attack and the cold threat to the merchants of the islands yet he still can't not be happy as a part of him recognises the simple truth of the matter, he has gotten closer once more to ending this all and with to his knowledge no gods interfering...
