‘Ah what a waste of time, nobody is going to come here either way so why do I always wake up so early?’
A woman thought.
‘It's not like I am needed either way. At this rate I might not even be able to pay the rent of the month. Really what was I thinking when I started this business? It's not like anybody is going on an adventure without a healer these days and even if they do, it's unlikely that they are doing something that's going to get them hurt.’
The same person though, as she was laying her head on top of the desk of her office. The area in which she was in, resembled a small room, with little to no decorations and a few benches and chairs here and there.
The light that the windows provided was filling the room with light as the woman who looked no older than 30 was wishing that it was a bit darker to allow her to take a nap.
‘This is just great. What am I even doing with my life, sitting here and waiting for a usual person to come in wanting to heal a minor injury just because of my damn policies. What was I even thinking when I added these prices on low injuries anyways? How naive was I even back then to think that nobody would take advantage of my kindness.’
The woman kept rethinking her life choices until the silence of her office was suddenly interrupted by a low voice from the door. Hearing the familiar voice of her office door opening and returning back to reality, the woman quickly jolted and raised her head quickly, trying to take a correct pose that fits her position. As always though, her reaction time was not the best.
‘Oh I have done it again! How can I be so careless? And why did I have to have a customer so early? And why someone that young!? Please don't comment on my appearance! I want to die so badly right now!’
Not being aware of her internal monologues, the customer, who seemed to be a teen, entered through the door and approached her desk casually with a straight face. As he slowly walked, she spoke.
“Is this where I can get healing services?”
Hearing his casual question, the woman didn't miss a second and quickly replied while trying to keep a smile on her face and being as joyful as she could.
“That's right! You came to the right place. Is there anything I can help you with?”
‘Please don't be a creep! I can't afford to deal with any more of these.’
Her customer slowly sat on one of the empty chairs in front of her desk facing her, without being aware of the accusations he had already received.
“That's great. I would really appreciate it if the healer working here could take a look at a recent injury I got. I really need to get it healed and the sooner the better.”
Hearing his words and feeling a bit internally relieved, the woman spoke.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“You are speaking directly to her and I can heal any injury no matter how bad it is. You came to the right place. So can I see the injury?”
The customer seemed a bit surprised by her response, but he quickly nodded and turned around. He then moved the back of his shirt upwards and pointed at his back.
Looking at it the woman / the so-called healer seemed stunned for a second, taken by surprise by what she saw.
‘What kind of recent injury is this!? What could even cause such a thing!?’
The upper back of her customer had a big scratch on it which looked more like a mark rather than an actual scratch. After all, the injury seemed completely closed or more accurately, it was as if the surrounding skin of the scratch had started moving closer to the gap in a desperate attempt to close the gap that had appeared on it.
‘This doesn't seem that serious but how can this even be called recent? Did he try to close it on his own or something? Or did he perhaps go on a fake healer or something? This isn't something that just happens on its own.’
Trying to keep a straight face and not show her surprise towards the out of the ordinary size of the injury, the healer replied.
“Ah, I see. This sure might be troublesome. But worry not, it's an easy fix. You will be healed in no time!”
Hearing her response, her customer asked in a polite manner.
“That's good to hear. So how much is it going to cost me?”
Hearing the usual for her question, she quickly replied with an excited voice.
“No need to worry at all about that. Since there is no bleeding and the injury isn't life threatening, it will cost you just around 50 silver!”
Hearing her price, the customer pulled down his shirt.
“I see, that is quite unfortunate. I am sorry but I can't afford that right now so I will be going. Still, thanks for the help and sorry for wasting your time.”
Sitting up to leave, the healer quickly called out to him in desperation.
“Wait! I don't usually do this but I think that I can lower the price just for you! And not only that but I can go as low as half the original price! So how does that sound?”
The healer asked in desperation.
“I am sorry but it's way too high for me right now. I can't afford something that expensive.”
Ready to open the door, the healer shouted with a voice full of desperation.
“Ten! I can heal you for just ten silver!”
Hearing her desperate voice, her customer stopped and turned around to face her.
“If you drop it down to eight then I will accept your offer.”
‘My offer? You want me to give you more than an 80% discount right now!? How is this my offer, you greedy bastard?’
“Yes I can do that!”
***
“Thanks for your service! If I get injured again I will surely come by again. See you another time.”
Her customer said as he left her office now fully healed.
‘Ahhh, this is so humiliating!’
The healer thought as he grabbed her hair now that she was alone. In the end, he only paid 8 silver coins plus an additional 10 copper that he gave her as a tip which to her was more than humiliating.
‘How can you just give me 10 copper when I gave you such a discount!? How desperate do I even look to you!?’
The healer began thinking while being on the edge of sending tears due to the humiliation she was feeling.
Taking a moment to calm down, she slowly relaxed and started fixing her office to get ready for any incoming patients that may arrive.
‘Thinking about it now, I don't think that I ever had a patient that took so little time to heal. At least considering his injury. Have I become more efficient with healing magic in such a short time or was his case special?’
Picking the chairs and rearranging them out of habit, she continued wandering.
‘Either way, 8 silver is 8 silver no matter how you look at it. It's still a profit considering that no one else came! And on top of that, if I get a few more of those I may get the chance to leave this crappie town and move to the capital! Ah, what an amazing idea!’
With newfound determination, she quickly began moving faster, trying to make the place look as presentable as possible for the next customer.
